Here's hoping he accepts the demotion. Hopefully he won't pull a Grabovski and threaten to go back to Europe.
I don't understand this attitude of coddling players. You know how you make the Montreal Canadiens? You come to training camp and you bust your ass to prove you belong on the team.
Jacques Martin feels that Kostitsyn is not one of those players so he's assigned him to the AHL.
If he doesn't "accept" his demotion, we're seeing his true colors. Any player who thinks he's bigger than the team and won't accept a demotion to the minors *I DON'T WANT PLAYING HERE.* I would trade him right away if he doesn't want to report. But I suspect he's not nearly as dumb as some of the posters here and will go to Hamilton and play hard.
Let's build a team of hardworking guys with good attitudes and good skillsets who want to play here.
oh man, i guess this move its also a huge wake up call to kostitsyn, get the message or you will be out in a hurry. (hopefully he doesnt take is chance in russia, now that would NOT be a huge surprise)
Sergei will have a tough time for sure, even last year he took it pretty badly, hopefully he regains his confidence playing with good kids.. i really wished paccioretty would be sent down too..
as for gainey... sorry but we are lacking a top6 player able to score..
nothing against Pacs or Dags but.. our scoring lines need experience and production and aint expecting more than 40 pts from either of them even on top lines.. i really dont. as for andrei playing on the third line might be a wake up call. Once he likes playing with his heart and body, then we can integrate him back somewhere in top 2 lines..
in my opinion this lineup, mine or any one you can imagine, shows a hole in the top 2 lines, and Gainey must act.
Last year he had a coach who didn't like talking to his players...I'm sure that Jacques told him what he needs to work on, that he's a young player and that he sees him as a key part to our team in the future.
This cut is propable close to 100% about Kostitsyn's attitude, so people claimering how he had the most talent out of all the bubble players are really missing the point. The culture is about to change with this club. No more freeloaders.
QFT. Andrei hasn't impressed either and it could also be a message to him as well.
uh........ maybe they want him to have some time with Boucher so as to help him develop proper habits on & off the ice so as to be better prepared for when he gets a shot at the big club again.
he's got too much talent & built-in grit to 'throw away to the dogs' like many of you bi-polar pseudo-gms are wont to do.
I don't recall saying he should be tossed away.
Fact is, they're sending a message by cutting him before the charter goes to Toronto (tonight) when they're not making any other cuts until later. There was no rush, Hamilton hasn't even flown back yet. It was clearly calculated to send a message.
That's a pretty clear message for Kostitsyn, just as it is for guys like Carle, Pyatt and Weber (in the positive sense).
I think we need to trade for a top 6 player if we want a real team.
The top 6 right now:
5. A. Kostitsyn
D'Agostini sucks, he's useless without the puck. Offensively he's flashy but he won't produce that much.
Pacioretty needs time in the AHL. He needs to prove he can score goals in the AHL before doing it in the NHL.
And I won't even talk about Latendresse.
What about every other facet of the game in which he is useless?
Considering they're fighting for a spot on top6, offense is what counts the most.
D'Ago needs to improve his defensive positioning and I'm sure he'll do so under Martin.
I think there's a number of combinations with the top 9 that can be done. But if you want to maximize offense out of top 6, then D'Ago should be ahead. MaxPac has produced very little last year and this preseason.
But you said you hated D'Ago already. So I don't think I can say much that will make you change your mind. Just give the kid a chance.
