Pat Burns evaluates the 2009-2010 Canadiens - worth listening.

I'm surprised noone posted this - after commenting on all the other NHL teams, Pat Burns has a full segment on his evaluation of the current edition of the Habs. Many interesting points, as usual.

I must say that the nickname Pat "Stalemate" Burns made me chuckle Also notable: Scott Gum and "Sport of the bed"

Pat predicts the Habs will finish anywhere between 4th and 12th spot. As vague as it is it seems pretty accurate.

4-12 or 1-12, depending on your degree of confidence in Boston, would be as accurate as you can get regarding the Canadiens. It's impossible to give any kind of reasonable prediction on a team that has turned over its coaching staff and half its roster, and not the bottom part of it either.

If he wanted to be really accurate, he would have said habs'll finish anywhere from 1 to 15. That's accurate. And vague.

The audio link is right under the title, where it says "écouter l'audio".

He said Carbo sucked and should of coached in Hamilton beforehand - if he gets a new job at least now he'll have experience (as if teams are running to hire him).

He also said our D is improved...he rhetorically asked if "we" would trade Komi, Breezer and Bouillon for Gill, spacek and Mara.

Basically he says that there are too many question marks to make a valid better prediction. Which seems honest. And there is a lot of content in his review besides that. He's overall positive, including on his ex players, Gomez, Gionta and Gill.

I only hope he'll be here at the end of the season to see if he was wrong or right.

Nothing nobody here didn't know..

This probably wasn't posted because it's not really worth posting.

Pretty much says every new acquisition is a question mark. Same thing for Price.
Says D improved.
Says it's good we have a veteran coach.
Says we'll finish from 4-12th.

I learned a lot.

yes it's things we know, but it's just nice to hear someone else with more knowledge agreeing with that, reinforcing how good us fans feel about this year. it's more the anticipation of the unkown though, but that's what makes it fun.

It's interesting the way he said that in his opinion Carbo should have started his career as coach in the AHL to learn a few things.

And he was also the one that turned Hal Gill into an NHL player back when no-one believed it to be possible. He knows what he's talking about.

I hope people have the time to listen to the audio since the written article is not that good.

Maybe there's nothing ground breaking but it's still good to listen given the authority behind those words. While he says that we have clearly a better offense and defense, improved coaching and a much tougher team (on paper), he points out that things can go wrong in many ways, starting with the goalie and ending with even more "trade rumors" from the media machine or injuries.

He also blasts Komisarek's value (did it even when he was a Hab) and defends Hal Gill as a reliable 6th -7th and "maybe one of the best PKers I've ever coached".

The 4th-12 rank is a professional answer to a rather silly question. He just points that because of the parity, besides Pittsburgh, Boston and Washington every other team is filled with question marks so there is nothing certain.

It's a professional scout's view. Someone who knows a lot more hockey then most of the other journalists. Cold and impartial. Inevitably vague.
