Mitchell being capable of playing the wing, I wouldn't mind seeing Bozak center the third line.

That's what I'm thinking. Maybe Mitchell - Bozak - Stempniak? I would imagine with the injury to Mayers that Wallin will play on the 4th line. Otherwise I'd have him in Stempniak's spot.

What about Stalberg? It seems like Kulemin, Grabovski, Ponikarovsky, Stajan, Blake, Hagman have the top 6. Why not a 3rd line of Stalberg-Bozak-Mitchell?

All the article says is that Bozak is "still in the mix".

We already knew that..

Leafs have 29 players left in camp and need to 23 by opening day, but two of those 29 are Kessel and MVR which will begin the year of IR.

Here are Tuesday's Practice Lines

Forwards:

Blake - Stajan - Stalberg
Ponikarovsky - Grabovski - Hagman
Wallin - Mitchell - Stempniak
Orr - Primeau - Rosehill

Extras: Kulemin - Bozak - Mayers - Tlusty

One can probably draw some conclusion as to what the opening night line-up is going to look like and the cuts coming from the bolded names.

Defencemen:
Kaberle - Komisarek
Beauchemin - Schenn
White - Exelby
Finger - Gunnarson

Goaltenders:
Toskala
Gustavsson
MacDonald

Wow this thread goes from Boazk making the team and Kulemin not... But now it looks as though both of them will not make the team. Sucks

I hate to see guys like stemp be on the team over our future core.

Well Leafs need to cut 4 players with Kessel on LongTerm IR and MVR on ShortTerm IR.

Macdonald, Gunnarsson, Tlusty are 3 of 4 ..

Then it appears its Rosehill, Bozak or Kulemin being the last forward cut.

Mayers being banged up likely the 13th forward opening day, and Rosehill being the one skating in his spot and playing a similar role filling in.

It looks like its Bozak or Kulemin as the last cut barring a trade. Kulemin being the healthy scratch and Bozak being the cut as best guess.

I'd say that's a pretty accurate assessment.

Although I think Macdonald backs up for the 1st couple weeks.

I don't see why Bozak making the team will or should end Kulemin's chances.

Kulemin was a solid producer last year and I think will be a solid producer again this season -- while he is inconsistent point wise he's impressed me with his willingness this pre-season. I don't think there's anything in the minors that would benefit Kulemin at this point. All the learning he needs to do should be done at the NHL level.

Do you know what the major problem is right now? Nobody has clear cut established themselves, outside of Stalberg. Even some of the incumbents like Stempniak, and Blake have left wanting. Everyone's looking for a reason to bang one of the older players, who don't have much of a future with the team, out.

I think we just need to be patient, and eventually it (and Burke) will eventually sort itself out.

Asset management is what is going to rule the day. Guys that CAN be sent down (like Bozak) will be IMO. Injuries will happen...guys will slump and make the decisions easy. There's no need to rush to clear vets right now.

I think that they are giving Stempniak a chance after a good training camp. Kulemin is a rock and nothing they need to worry about but Stempniak has to actually show that he can contribute.

I haven't seen that yet. Obviously there would an adjustment coming in to this league from the NCAA for Bozak, but after the first game he played, I thought Stajan played really well. Look to him to improve upon last years growth. That said, I am optomistic about Tyler as well.

yeah, I really don't understand how people are writing off Kulemin in here.

Bozak will likely get sent down for a stint. Maybe it has something to do with Poni missing the last game? and Mayers still out?
not like the Marlies will hurt his progress, and it buys time for Burke to try and maybe get some value out of his other centers.

Same thing with Grabovski. 3 goals and an assist in 5 or 6 games and I see people saying they were disappointed with him. Some things just confuse me.

I'm not so sure this is set in stone yet. I'll wait for the Leafs to release their roster as I've seen conflicting reports now.

I wouldn't stress too much - everyone, including Tlusty/Bozak/Kulemin/Hanson/Gunnarson/Oreskovic who are sent down, will get a chance to show their stuff at some point this season.

Last year, 27 players played at least 20 games for the leafs, while 34 players played at least 10 games for the leafs. 39 players total played at least a game for the leafs.

that's the good news, isn't it?

We're having trouble finding space for guys who actually produced this offseason like Stalberg (9pts), Bozak (6pts), Kadri (5pts), Kulemin (4pts), Gunnarson (2pts).....

meanwhile, a team like Montreal is stuck with forcing a kid like Pacioretty onto their first line to start, even though he only racked 1 point this preseason.

I like Rosehill and all, but he shouldn't be keeping Kulemin or Bozak out of the team that's for sure. when Mayers is ready, down he goes. problem solved.
