Lol, best story ever. I had a friend that was a big time Gelinas fan because of how he was a smaller guy and worked so hard. He finally gets his Gelinas jersey, the next day he's traded to the Canes.

I have said this many times. Out of all the NHL players I have been fortunate enough to meet, Gelinas was with out question one of the nicest.

There used to be a little sandwich shop in the plaza to the right of the entrance to Granville Island. It was called "Bics"

After Gelinas was picked up on waivers from Quebec in 93, he used to come in there all the time for coffee and sit and talk hockey with the regulars.

He would always come in on Game day and get an espresso before heading to the rink. Just a great guy who always had time to talk to you.

That happened to me as well (do I know you? I'm also from the Island). My wife bought a new style replica Canucks jersey when they were being sold around town just before the season started.. I put an all star patch on it, then hemmed and hawwed a while trying to decide whether I wanted #16 or #23 on it. I went with #23, and yeah.. Thanks Keenan.. I would have lost out either way though.. I assume your friend bought a replica also.. if it's a game worn, see if you can find it, I'll throw in a finders fee

I'll 2nd that, I've met him 3 times here in Calgary and each time he took the time to talk to me for 10-15 minutes, talking hockey, family and game worn collecting, and even went so far as to suggest that I come over to his place sometime and he'll sign a few things for me, and that he had to get rid of some stuff.. (no lie, I have a witness lol)

Talk about Mr. Clutch. Gelinas for Calgary Flames was pretty awesome, 3 series winner I believe, and if that goal counted for the Flames against Lightenings in game 6...4 series winner, wow. Freakin guy had to score against us in OT in 2002.

I agree

Also--He has a knack for remember people. I met him when he first got to Edmonton a few times and we were introduced only once.

When he got to Vancouver, him and his wife got seated near me and my wife and he leaned over and went "your name is **** and we met at this persons party in Edmonton" it was about 10 years between the two days

Gelinas scored 4 goals in one game back when he was with the canucks. right after his 4th goal, the puck went into the crowd off the center ice faceoff. my mom caught the puck

great guy.

(I love how this thread has turned into an OT Gelinas stories thread haha)

aw I remember when Gelinas was playing really well, and I seen a dude wearing a fresh Gelinas jersey downtown on Granville.

A few weeks later MG was traded to Carolina by Vancouver with Kirk McLean for Sean Burke, Geoff Sanderson and Enrico Ciccone, January 3, 1998, bad move imo.

According to a buddy of mine who was close to the circle of one of the Canucks players told me that Gelinas got traded because Keenen tried to get arise out of him and he couldn't. Keenen(we can agree was a bit of a prat) and he did not like it when a player he tries to play mind games with does play back with him. Gelinas was a pro and he did his job and he knew his job. Keenen just needed the need to poke people with a stick

Had Gelinas finished his career with Vancouver he would have been ring of honour material.

Good thing he got his Cup early because his clutch goals end up coming short elsewhere during his career. Only player to score a Cup-clinching goal without actually winning the Cup with it!
