How the signing of Robert Lang affects Martin Hanzal? I was hoping he would be playing on the first two lines.

I think some of us are hoping Lang, Hanzal and Vrbata can maybe develop chemistry and play together. Lang would be a good mentor for him. Otherwise, we can just put Hanzal on the 3rd line and have 3 2nd lines that split the time evenly, before one dominant one emerges.

The reference was to what he can teach Marty.

I guess we can remove "(pending physical)" from the title.

I like the signing as it fits the team and I can't see this being a multiyear contract so it is very low risk. The lines are balanced, and on paper make much more sense than anything we have seen in the last few years.

Gretzky wanted goons/physical players to protect the young guys not entirely ready for the NHL. Tippett wants a good hockey team with decent experience, composed of players all ready for the league. Turris and Tikh are in the AHL where they can progress. So no need for any protection, good bye Hollweg etc... I like it.

The article also confirms Hollweg being waived.

Also confirmed at one year.

Who wants to guess the dollar amount?

Got to be more than Comrie(1.25) but less than Tanguay(2.5), right? So, 1.875?

BTW, just noticed that Lang and Tanguay each played fifty games, last season. Tanguay had fourty one points, and Lang had thirty nine. A difference of just two points.

Maloney also signed another player today.

Quote:
Matt Watkins went to Phoenix with on a tryout contract and has now earned himself a two-year NHL deal.

Watkins has signed the contract and will likely start the season with the Coyotes' AHL franchise, the San Antonio Rampage. Watkins played in the preseason for Phoenix.

The head coach at Phoenix is Dave Tippett, a former Sioux forward.

Guessing $1.5M base and $1M in incentives (games played, points).

Points can't be used as bonuses. Games played is what Mathieu Schneider received as bonuses.Brendan Shanahan had a games played bonus in his one year contract plus playoff bonuses with the Rangers two years ago.

Very good guess. Tanguay doesn't qualify for those, right? It makes sense that if Lang does, they'd go that route.

Does anyone know exactly how GP bonuses work? Is there a set number for every person? A set scale? Or is it up to the teams?

Any sort of incentive bonuses are up to individual teams per individual player contract. However, the bonuses are counted against the teams salary cap numbers.

Thanks for posting that. I was looking for it earlier and failed.

No, you're just wrong. You ought to check your facts before you make a factual assertion.

I don't assert facts.

FYI. I have excellent memory recall. When I make a post here about anything like this I will have links and facts to back it up. Just keep that in mind for future posts.

It's in the CBA. I would suggest you read it some time. Download the copy from the NHLPA site not some garbage fan interpretation of the CBA.

http://www.nhlpa.com/CBA/index.asp

However there are limits for SPC's. Don't have the time to go over them at the moment.

16.12 Injured and designated a non-roster player: Bonuses for the injured player count against salary cap as does the player that replaces him.

50.2 is where it's at. Bonuses do count against the cap.

Those are guidelines for entry level contracts.

yeah, if Alex Tanguay is worth $2.5M, Lang is worth $4M

That was his contract last year....which is amazing in itself.....

He certainly isn't getting $4M from the Coyotes, or even $2M for that matter...

Actually, I just looked over his detailed stats with the Habs last season (writing an analysis article of the signing) and they're pretty impressive for only 50 games played. Had he been healthy (and maintained his scoring pace) he would have been in the top 3-5 scorers on the team (I would say top 3).

If he stays healthy this season, he's gonna be AWESOME for the Coyotes.

::edit::

Misread the cap site. $4 Million is what he made on the Habs last season.

They played the same exact number of games. Tanguay had two more points.

I'm pretty sure just about anything can be used as bonuses for non-ELC player, including points. The only CBA bonus restrictions are for the ELC guys. There are no restrictions described in the CBA for non-ELC bonus eligible players.

for the acronym fans: ELC = Entry Level Contract = Rookie contract
