Gerbe and Weber to Portland

I thought Gerbs said he wasn't going down?

Ok, I was wondering if we could have some separate discussion though...I mean these 2 guys clearly wanted to make it. Anyone else think Weber will want to be elsewhere now that he's been sent down again?

If he's a realist, he's got to get that his preseason performance were not good and he's got to improve. Playing, getting his timing and decision making back... that's what he should be focusing on.

I think he's actually regressed...as for Gerbe...he's too small imo.

Weber is coming off multiple injuries which basically limited him in both Buffalo & Portland, hence why Butler surpassed him as a callup, RTG.

With Tallinder, Lydman, and Paetsch all UFA after this season, Weber should realize that's he going to have a glorious opportunity next season to crack the lineup full-time--and not just as a #7. I don't think he'll be frustrated, this isn't a case where he can see the writing on the wall and he'll never get a shot. The fact that he was kept until the last day should also show they think he's close, and he'll get the injury call-up when they need it.

I think both Gerbe and Weber realize that they will get their shot if they keep working. LDS summed it pretty well.

I just wish they'd scrap the Tallinder experiment already

Both of these guys will have a huge chance to earn a full time spot next season, and they will get plenty of time during the season when injuries ultimately hit. It was probably a confidence booster to be up with the big club as long as they were.

I've gotten some of my enthusiasm for Gerbe back. He'll be back up at some point. I'm disappointed with Weber. I hoped he would be the guy to bring back some of what's been missing since Mckee left.

Interesting choice of words for the longest-tenured Sabre

Nothing wrong with Gerbe's attitude. Weber could find himself losing ground on the depth chart if he doesn't pull his game together.

Meanwhile, Gerbe admitted he was disappointed at his failed bid to make the team. He had two goals and two assists in the preseason, and scored in the final two games over the weekend in Montreal and Toronto.

"You feel more comfortable and start playing more like yourself," Gerbe said, gear slung over his shoulder as he was heading out of the arena. "Again, there's no room on the roster. I'm going to try to go to Portland, work hard and force something. I feel so much better to leave on a good note, I guess. I thought I did all I could."

Presumably the Sabres see him as the first D callup, since he was the last sent down, but do you [collectively] agree with that? I guess comparing him to TJB and Grags makes it a yes, but is there anybody that questions that order?

No order top 8:
Rivet
Montador
Lydman
Hank
Patches
Myers
Reggie
Butler

No order [Portland]:
Weber
Grags
Brennan

As far as recalls are concerned, the Sabres have shown they'll call up whoever's playing best when they need a player. Zagrapan's preseason last year didn't earn him any consideration.

I'd be pretty surprised if Grags or TJ got recalled ahead of Weber, but you never what will happen once they start playing in Portland
