Anyone with a pair of eyes is equally qualified as HF's staff when it comes to judging prospects.

Hf's staff are not industry guys, they are just fans like you and me.

True, but how many times has your eyes been on both hickey and alzner? I doubt more than the collective group of the HF writers. I too would take their opinion over yours based strictly off the fact that there are more of them to assess talent. Face it, most of us only follow the prospects of our teams. We rarely get to see the other great prospects out there.

HF also changed Tangradi from a "solid" prospect to a "budding superstar" as soon as he was traded to Pittsburgh.

HF also picked Sweden to win the WJs because Tokarski had one bad game.

HF also picked Chicago to win the Winter Classic and make the Finals.

HF knows as much about hockey as my mother does.

- Maybe Tangradi developed?

- Everyone makes mistake

- Chicago made it to the conference finals so...

If predicting were an exact science, there would be an extremely rich hockey website with even better forums than HF. But there isn't.

Additionally, you seem to forget that HF is a publication like any other - it needs to get views to make money.

I would say that HF knows more about hockey more than both you and your mother

- So he developed as soon as he was traded? I think not.

- That prediction was made before the Winter Classic. Anyone who thought they were getting through Detroit needs to have their head examined.

I was actually referring to the posters, although the prospect rankings are laughable seeing as they change on the size of the fanbases on the site.

I'd say you're wrong. But I expect that from a lot of the posters.

Oh you were talking about the boards.

Well with that taken into consideration, I cannot say for sure whether your mother or you know hockey better than the average poster.

nope, I mean Stanley Cup. They need to either get or develop a goalie to be their true number 1 (he may already be Bernier). After that they have so much talent on front end and the back end, they are the Penguins of the West. I feel they will be in the conference final within 4 years. I'm not even a Kings fan, I mean I like them, but I'm a die hard Oilers fan. I just think that LA has stockpiled some amazing talent. I also don't think people realize how good Doughty is and is going to be.

L.A. never does this because Brown holds more value to them because he is their captain and because of his overall game, he's more of a game changer than anybody else on the Kings roster.....So, it would take a serious overpay to get him and as much as i love Gagner's POTENTIAL and Moreau for what he's meant to the Oiler organization as far as leadership is concerned, it would take more to lure Brown out of L.A. Think Hemsky and then they'll start talking....... That being said, i'll take that trade in a heartbeat as an Oiler fan

It's till too soon to make that call on Quick. He could be the guy, you never know. One thing LA does need to is let a couple of these questionable contracts expire and then they will have money to resign their young guys. Handzus, Smyth, Stoll are all overpaid, and to me, none of them are part of the Kings long term plans. I'd try to hold on to Frolov as well, I'd rather have him, than Smyth. No knock on Smyth, but that guy has taken a beating over his career, and I feel his body won't hold up too much longer.

I agree with all of this

Handzus is overpaid. The Kings had to throw an extra mil or two to get him to come to LA. But, they needed a guy with his work ethic and attitude. But, He is only signed for one more season.

Smyth is past his prime, but He is again only signed for 2 more year after this. That last year might be a tough year for him but after striking out in Free agency, Smyth was their best option especially considering the intangibles the guy brings.

Stoll needs to be upgraded. The Kings need a guy on the second line who can produce more.

Stoll is great on faceoffs and pointshots but in all other instances he should be on the 4th line. Hopefully Schenn can develop sooner rather than later.

like I said, the Kings are bursting with talent, and they have the potential to be one of the best teams in the league, real soon.

You are good people Justin.

I can't wait for it to finally happen. It's been tough only watching Kings playoff re-run games since 2002.

That may be, but at least you were able to watch as they built an amazing core of young players. It sucks to miss the playoffs year after year, but this is at least a good consolation prize.

I'm sure the last 6 years haven't been much fun, but I do see it paying off for the Kings in the end. A healthy competitive team in LA is a good thing for the league. With Kopitar up front and Doughty on the back end, you guys have 2 amazing talents to build around. This is a year where I think they turn the corner, they will either make the playoffs or be in the hunt until the last week of the season, either way, I see them being a better than .500 hockey team for sure.

I'm not sure why they traded for Smyth, love his character but makes too much money and is too old at this point.

Very simple. We needed an upgrade on the top 6, specifically a left wing, we needed a player that plays like Smyth (goes to net and gets his hands dirty) and we were kinda outta options after all the top FA's signed elsewhere. He didn't cost the Kings much and we had the CAP room. I am surprised there weren't more threads about him in the summer considering Kings fans were aware DL actively pursued him at the deadline. I guess the asking price then was Bernier and Hickey (if I'm not mistaken) so I guess everyone thought that was out of the question.

One of the biggest things to consider when you bring up Smyth's salary is we were able to dump off Tom Preissing which mitigates some of the cost. When you subtract Preissing's $2.75m cap hit, leaves Smyth's CAP hit at $3.5m net for the next 2 seasons which the team would've paid Preissing (who is already on the IR I might add) to sit in the press box.
