To LA - Phillips, Ruutu, Zubov, Lee

To L.A.
LW Jarko Ruutu (1.3 million)
D Chris Phillips (3.5 million)
C Ilya Zubov
D Brian Lee (1.25 million)
San Jose's 2nd round pick 2010 (acquired in Heatley trade)
Ottawa's 3rd round pick 2010

To Ottawa
D Matt Greene (2.95 million)
C Brayden Schenn

Notes: L.A. ends up with one 1st rounder, three 2nd rounders and four 3rd rounders at next year's draft! Brian Lee and Jack Johnson were a pairing for the U.S. WJC team. Phillips could team up with Scuderi. Sens save $3.1 million in cap.

Kuba Volchenkov
Greene Campoli
Carkner Karlsson

so bad, so so bad.

if you want Schenn, you have to START with Cowen and then add Regin and a bunch of other parts Ottawa is not willing to give up.

Not gonna happen. So bad, so so bad.

We send Phillips, Lee and then a whole hunk of junk (although I love Ruutu and wouldn't trade him) for a good defenceman and a 5th over-all pick?

I very much doubt, even if the value was right, that a deal of this magnitude would be made on the eve of the regular season. Especially considering how established Phillips is in Ottawa.

Not nearly enough quality going to LA.

There is some quality on the Ottawa side (Phillips being the most obvious example) but Zubov, Ruutu and the picks don't bring much to the deal, clearly.

I don't know if quality necessarily > quantity generally, though. Many fans argue Ovechkin is better than Crosby or Malkin, but I doubt they would also that the Capitals would lose a deal that sent Ovie to the Pens for both of them.

Anyway, this deal stinks.

Ruutu, Lee and Phillips play on the Kings tomorrow and each replace weaker players currently on the roster. Is the future not now in L.A.?

???

Cowen+Regin > Schenn

And a lot of people will know that once Regin dominates with the Sens best 2nd line ever.

Cowen was picked 4 spots behind Schenn, and before last season was projected to go higher. His knee injury isn't much of a problem now, so I consider him and Schenn to be even with each other.

But ya, the first proposal wasn't too good.

Well, at least this one favours Ottawa for once.

Thats not the same thing, though.

Given your trade prop, I'm not surprised you don't understand.

Schenn isn't going anywhere. He almost made the Kings this year & will most likely be our 2nd line center next year.

Neither are the Kings. Without a trade that is. I mean come on, what is with the perpetual rebuilding. For example, what are they doing sitting on three 3rd rounders in next year's draft?

So what? so they have three 3rd round picks maybe they are going to use them to trade up? whats wrong with keeping your draft pick and is it bad to keep your farm team well stocked?

Ouch, I love Schenn and all but this basically shuts down any chance at a playoff spot by taking away our top defenseman and a young promisng one. I'd have to think about it more.

No. Cowen is around the same value as Schenn, we don't even know if the Sens had Schenn higher on their list. Why give up the Antoine Vermette-clone for nothing?

There's really no way that the Kings would do this. It literally fills no team needs, and Schenn is one of our many somewhat-below-blue-chip center prospects that we need to replace "2nd line centers" such as Handzus and Stoll

name me the 3 players that Ruutu, Lee, and Phillips would replace on opening night.

I see Lee waiting in line...
I see Ruutu blocking a spot

but yes, Phillips would help...he's worth Matt Greene & Brayden Schenn though ? i don't think so

and again, if the "future is now" for the Kings...then your previous argument of how many picks we would have collected for next year is utterly useless

the 2nd and 3rd is completely useless for us IF the future is NOW !

think about it

really, what you are giving us in terms of what the Kings could use, is Phillips.

Ruutu's usefulness to the Kings is extremely debatable, I would say he is really not worth the price you're asking

and the Kings do not need Lee, I am sure you've seen the list of prospects we have waiting on D...and Lee barely has a year of experience
