Janus is a good goalie because he has eyes in the back of his head.

Appropriately, Janus is the god of gates, doors, doorways, beginnings and endings. Which equates to goaltending far more than it should.

Ok, so now there are 3 good young goaltenders in Norfolk. Are they going to rotate between the 3, or have a starter and a back up and the 3rd one gets demoted to a lower league?

The Bolts did affiliate with the Colorado Eagles of the CHL. The odd man out could be sent there.

Thats a big step back for Helenius and a shot to the gut for Tokarski who was just signed to a pro contract to be moved up.

Janus looked awesome but I think if any of them need to be transferred to the CHL its him. Let him get his feet wet there and go from there.

Its a good problem to have though Ill tell you that much.

Thats not necessarily a stretch, Tokarski just seems to have the better resume right now.

This. I just don't see Tokarski panning out as much as I see Janus doing it.

Most people don't, but you can't deny what the kid has done. I think they both have excellent chances, just very different playstyles.

Agreed. Janus seems to be alot more agile, but Tok has his postioning down pat. Would you rather a goalie that comes up with three or four huge saves a night, or a goalie who's positioning is so damn good that he doesn't have to come up with any huge saves. Thats the delima the lightning are facing now......I love it!!!

Alright, I'll bite, so are we SURE that we're not overrating Janus? I mean that with all sincerity really, I want another goaltending prospect to be excited about but wasn't he passed up in 2008? What am I missing here?

Yes, many of you are. He's got a lot of talent but also serious, potentially crippling flaws. Calling him better than Tokarski is just laughable at this point.

But he has been the underdog the last year or so and may just be peaking at the right time!

The fact that he slipped a lot in 08 because he was more unknown, and then slipping this year because he was a euro and there is no transfer agreement.

Its not that hes head and shoulders above Tokarski or anything like that, but athletically, I don't think its a problem calling him better. Kid has great movement and followed the puck in traffic well.

On the other hand, hes moving a lot like Ramo, using athleticism to make saves when hes caught out of position. Tokarski on the other hand is the biggest 5'11 goalie i've seen in a while, and he doesn't give you a lot of room to do anything.

They're both highly underrated, too.

Well Janus played in the OHL the last two years so I don't see how anything to do with a transfer agreement could affect his draft positioning, especially when hes not russian.

Czech, and there is still the risk of him running to the K.

I'm sorry, why are you speculating this? Is there a link somewhere that talks about it as a possibility?

Or are you saying that any euro born player is a risk to go to the KHL?

I think thats a little too broad of a generalization for me to accept. You know how many euros are in the NHL? Let alone the OHL or AHL? And they're all a risk to go to the KHL?

They're a higher risk than a North American player, yes.
