At this point in time, Versteeg's value is higher than that of Purcell, and I'm not sure if the 2nd is enough to level it out. True, Hawks aren't in an ideal cap situation, but I'd have to believe they can score a better deal for Versteeg than this.

I'm excited to see what Purcell is gonna do on the 2nd line this year, hopefully he can continue what he showed in preseason. But at this point I don't think the Hawks would do it. They could get better value for Versteeg elsewhere.

Hawks won't trade Versteeg until after this season.

I understand and agree with your point, but as a Hawks fan I'd be OK with the deal if it was made right now. I just don't want to wait until the last minute and have the Hawks end up desperate to moving salary for TKK.

Make or break year for Purcell. I am hoping that he finds his NHL game because he is a very gifted offensive player. No harm in keeping him right now and he is much cheaper.

im not sure of purcell potential as a prospect but i versteeg is a legit top 6 player even though im not a big fan of his im positive the hawks can get more for him than a player that would be sent down to the minors as a hawk and a second rounder..i think frolov for versteeg is more even...they are pretty equal players and the kings get versteeg locked up for 3 years...while frolov is a ufa at seasons end...maybe the hawks include a second ...now tahts a good deal for both sides...versteeg helps the kings now and in teh future..while frolov impreoves teh hawks now for a cup run year and is off the cap for next year

Purcell has a sick wrister. But I think he's more like Brett Sterling then Petr Sykora.

No way the Hawks do this, but if they were interested I certainly wouldn't argue

Hawks wont trade Versteeg until after season because it would diminish our team!

But if the Kings made the 2nd a 1st in 2010 the value would be better

As a Kings fan, I say hell yes.

But I agree with the overall sentiment, we'd have to add more.

But I doubt Chicago wants the mid-range prospect we'd throw in to even it out, or a mid-round pick.

If the Kings added their 1st in 2010 the value wouldn't be better, it would be an overpayment.

Versteeg = proven rising star

Purcell and a 2nd are no were close to Versteeg's value so there is no compromise then

Homer alert!

Versteeg is NOT a rising star, unless you've got 100+ star players in the league. He's a legit scoring line winger who can PK and is surprising fiesty for being small.

And while I'm not saying the Hawks would have to give him away, the Hawks salary challenges WILL impact what is returned in a KV deal in the offseason.

I'm sorry man but one year of success doesn't equal a proven rising star. This from a Hawks fan.

If he puts up what he did last year or more he will be.

Ok that makes two seasons not one. Big difference. What if he puts up 35 pts this year which is also possible. One solid season does not equal proven rising star in any sport.

I'd keep Moller over Purcell but that's not a bad offer.

Purcell will probably net you as much as Brian Boyle did. The guy has bust written all over him. I completely agree that he is comparable to Brett Sterling.
