It seems that the consensus around here is to pick Barker, but who do you guys prefer in terms of the other players available at number three. Basically, if you had to choose between Olesz or Schremp, who would you pick. Olesz has an injury history and Schremp had an awesome season but Olesz is still a top prospect as is Schremp.
Barinka, Seabrook, Babchuk and then Barker. That would be pretty elite, but wouldnt it be smarter to see what the 3 kids have before going out and getting yet another great defensemen? They definitly could use a Schremp or Olesz
In a mock draft on the board, I select for Chicago. I took Schremp, and it was strategy. Of the two players, I have Schremp and Barker neck and neck. Looking at the cupboard right now, with Babchuk, Seabrook, Barinka, coming soon, an elite scorer was tough to pass up.
Secondly, with the plethora of second round picks, this draft is very deep in goaltenders and defensemen, so the picks 32nd, 41st, 45th, 50th have a far greater chance of making those picks count with a very good blueliner than any other type of player.
Who knows whether Valabik, Funk, Fistric, Rogers, Lepisto, Fransson, Meszaros will be around, but I bet one of them will. If you look past the first round, the forwards are going to drop off more significantly.
So since all things were equal at the time of selection, I took Schremp.
I would take Olesz but for the recent injuries to the noggin. From what I've heard he has a nasty tendency to skate with his head down when he's got the puck. Everytime I hear someone say that I think of Scott Stevens' hit on Lindros in the playoffs a few years back.
Therefore, Barker, without question, Barker.
Big kid, WHL kid, Barker.
IMHO, You can't ever have enough blue chip defensive prospects!
