Leafs swtich lineup for Caps

Forward Jamal Mayers and defenceman Jeff Finger will be added to the lineup Saturday night when the Maple Leafs take on the Capitals in Washington.

Mayers will replace Jay Rosehill on the fourth line while it is likely that Ian White will sit out on defence.

Ian White had a pretty bad game, and defensive defenseman, Jeff Finger is better suited to face off against the offensively fiery Capitals. Rosehill for Mayers is a wash, so pretty much a non-story for me.

I was hoping Kulemin would get in but I guess I'm going to have to wait for somebody in the top 6 to falter badly.

Who will be on the point for the second PP unit? Finger and Komi? Might as well just use Kaberle and Beauchemin for the whole PP.

Forward Jamal Mayers is set to play on Saturday in Washington in place of Jay Rosehill. Mayers passed a concussion test last Wednesday and says he feels good. Defenceman Jeff Finger will also be in the line-up, and said that he will likely be paired up with Ian White. - TSN

Projected Lines vs. Capitals

Forwards:
Stalberg - Stajan - Blake
Grabovski - Ponikarovsky - Hagman
Stempniak - Mitchell - Wallin
Mayers - Primeau - Orr
Extra: Kulemin - Rosehill

Defencemen:
Kaberle - Komisarek
Beauchemin - Schenn
White - Finger
Exelby

Goaltenders:
Toskala
Gustavsson
Are they gonna sit White who played 25 minutes last night, or are they going to sit Exelby who played 9?

I'm guessing the latter.

Ian White was Ian White, average at best defensively when he has a strong game, terrifying defensively when he's off his game. And in either scenario, a turn over machine.

Mayers is the better player. With Mayers on that line you can play it more often then.

I would expect a forward to go to the backend on the PP2 squad. Probably, even though I hate it Stemps.

That said, I do agree with Zeke, I think it'll be Exelby sitting for Finger, not White.

I think they reason they bring in Mayers is to try something different on the PK.

The PK wasn't terrible from the forwards last night though. I thought Primeau did an ok job and the forwards were winning faceoffs when they needed to.

I don't know what to think of Rosehill, didn't watch enough pre-season games, but does he do much more than hit and bang? Mayers can be relied on even if he does play a passive, quiet game.

For me, the problem with that is that the 2nd PP unit goes out there during the dying seconds of the PP so once it's over you're going to have a forward playing D for a few seconds.

We have conflicting reports here, so before everyone jumps off a bridge, relax.

I think White would stay in over Exelby. Both had mediocre games, but White brings more to the table.

Mayers over Kulemin
Either let the kid play, send him to the Marlies, or get rid of him(trade or release him)

Mayers is a reliable veteran forward who we can depend on to play the Pk against a very talented team in Washington. (and god knows how many penalties we will take against OV alone)

I don't mind this move, and if we do need someone to fight we still have Orr in the lineup.

Finger is also a well rounded defenceman, and if Exelby is sitting for him, I am fine with that move as well.
