Philly-Tor

Hey.

I think toronto really needs a #1 center.

I think that philly could use some depth and cap relief.

thus I propose the following exchange.

Philly- Briere

Tor - Matt Stajan , jiri Tlusty , Jeff Finger

Stajan fills the #3 slot behind carter/richards, tlusty is a cheap young very good winger *the key part of the deal*, and finger can play on phillys top4/6, is signed into a middle term deal and is the return salary for brieres contract.

Neither team does this, as you knew before posting this

I really don't want any part of Briere's salary. Although it seems to be a somewhat thought out proposal. Kudos.

If i didnt think it was a fair deal I wouldnt have posted it.

Minor prospects/picks may be needed to balance it out, as every trade might.

What the hell do we want Jeff Finger for?

Flyers don't care about cap relief.

Fail.

Neither team does this and it does not fill one need for Philly. Not one. We could use some cap relief, but who doesn't? We probably have some of the best depth in the league.

The main part of this is the salary relief for philly, and philly getting rid of an extra highly paid centerman, getting a stud prospect in tlusty, and getting an extra top4/6 defenceman.

Finger is a little overpaid, maybe 500k-1mil. but hes a physical defenseman, IIRC was our highest 5on5 scoring defenseman, and would fit right into the way that philly plays.

alot of this league is about where you spend your money. Philly already has two top6 centers locked up in carter and richards. This moves the money to a 3rd line center, a top4 defenceman, AND they get a stud prospect scoring at PPG in the minors.

Philly is in OMGWINNOW mode.

They don't want to touch finger's contract.

You a Philly fan? I honestly thought you were a Minnesota fan.

and back to the proposal, i think value is there, but i just dont see this happening. Stajan would be a good fit on Philly's third line if he just bulks up a little bit more.

While some cap relief would be nice for the Flyers, the last thing we need is another top 4-6 defensemen. We already have 6 NHL defenders, if you want to send a defensemen too, you need to be ready to take Jones contract back.

I think that Tlusty would HATE playing in Philadelphia.

Sorry... I can't see this proposal working for either team.

This deal does not take into consideration the fact that Toronto is currently into their bonus cushion and simply cannot afford to potentially take on a contract like Briere's even with Stajan and Finger potentially going the other way. Another significant Leaf contract would have to go along to make this proposal even remotely possible from a Leaf standpoint (and Tlusty's contract wouldn't likely be significant enough to tip the balance anyway).

Furthermore, Philly has no particular need for Finger as they already have a set Top 6 D-corps and Toronto can't afford to take back Jones either which is likely what would be needed for this deal to take place.

So it would be a no from both sides.

Throw in Ron Wilson and you've got yourself a deal.

Flyers #1 need right now isn't cap space or a good third line player, it's an honest to god warm bodied coach that can do coaching stuff like not stand behind the bench with a blank look on their face or teaching their players that losing isn't ok.

As a Sharks fan, I can honestly tell you Wilson isnt the answer to your coaching problems in the playoffs. In fact, we fired him because he couldnt lead us far into the playoffs.

As for the OP, Philly is probably looking for quality over quantity, not the other way around.

And it worked right? Seeing as the Sharks made it far without him last season.

Well The way I see it .. Briere is poised to have a comeback year, and from what i've seen so far through training camp and pre-season Briere will at the very least match his 95 career high total. He has been flying around and I seriously think him and Giroux will dominate this year.. and will ease JVR into the NHL as he will being playing in the top 9 this year.
Either way Briere will be on a line with talented players and his value to the Flyers will be more then Stajan, tlusty and finger.
