Chris Chelios

if there ever was a time it would be now.

Take the focus off Markov and let it go on Chelios age.

It keep the team lose and takes the pressure off them and the media can have something to write about .

A nice calm veteran D presence.

Does Chelios still have speed?

Edit: I mean, after seeing Gill's lead boots last night, and I still really like Gill for the most part, 2 players with their feet caught in the muck at times wouldn't be a good thing.

You suggest the worst possibility for pretty much every situation.

You're grasping here DM. The only way Chelios could help our team right now would be in a coaching capacity.

He had a great career, but it's over for Chelly.

HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Isn't he past the stage of being referred to as Veteran?

More like Old Timer... I'd love him on the team just because it be funny to watch a 50 yr old get his ass kicked.

he still got 10-12 minutes a night for atleast one more season.

this would give the players something to play for ..."win the old man one more" .. keep there focus

the media they get to wonder in amazement how the 47 yr still playing etc....

it seems like a great time now to bring him in and take the focus of the teams loss.

the very worst is they can release him if he doesnt work out .

Risk in bringing in Chelios? 0

Fans love him in Montreal , check the ovation he get everytime he comes to town.

The age thing would be something players on our team can enjoy. Try to win him one more kinda deal and Chelios get alot of the camera time ....less on them .....

Media focus would center on him alot more which is good!

If it doesnt work , he said he would retire the day he see he cant play . So where is the risk ??

I dont see any ....

veteran who's been thru it all ,going out the place he started his journey .

it works because he still can play 10-12 a night .....

Id give him the C......

let the players do the rest....

You remember how the AVS rallied around Raymond Bourque? There was some extra incentive for them that year.

This is what im seeing with Chelios....play for the old guy .

Again he said he will retire the day he sees he cant play . So 1 2 3 4 5 week from now he could just retire as a member of the HABS ......or we could be watching the player laughing with him holding up the cup en of the year...he being the first guy to raise it over his head......

if were "c" less anyways there obvious questions about a leader........Chelios can lead/teach and can play 10 minutes night

give him the C....oldest canadiens captain in history......he goes out a Hab

Yeah I understand your point. If he fails on the first week though, that wouldn't be a very pleasant retirement.

I don't know, I wouldn't complain if the team signs him.

Dude, Bourque never won a Stanley Cup... the entire hockey world was cheering for Bourque. RB was also not nearing 50 freaking years old.

Bad comparison.

Actually the risk is we would eventually have to see him on the ice. He's done, and towards the end of the season looked haggard, even playing 10-12 minutes per game.

So what, a lot of Habs fans loved Claude Lemieux. That didn't make him a good fit for our team last season.

If we need Chelios to help motivate our team in any way. We are in deep, deep trouble. As for the camera time, these are professionals. They have been in front of camera's half their lives.

Maybe for a week or two.

The risk is he's done and would not help our team out one iota. The only area he excelled was on the PK. We already have Gill for that.

Yes he's been through a lot. This is why I feel he'd make a great defensive coach.

You'd give the C to a player who would spend most if not all season up in the press box?

your failing to understand ......

that's the thing ,the whole world is ready to end now due to the loss of Markov ....check the media ....

WE NEED something to change that focus(media) .....Chelios is nearing 50 and does that for us ....

Also,
Hockey players are simple guys on the most part....You understand alot of player have superstitions .....tape there sticks the same way or wear stuff certain ways or dress/eat at certain times etc...they buy into a system...

Chelios as a teammate is another reason to try to win it ....his next cup would make him the oldest winner.....a great storyline as a player if you do win ....or make him captian and he be the old captian to win it ...i dont care what ever works....

Again the FOCUS would be cast onto Chelios and his age, taking away some of the attention from the team .THAT's A GOOD THING right now in Montreal.

again if he can play good ..if not he retires in 2 or 3 weeks....whats the big deal?

his first home game the fans would give him the love.....if it dont work he retires in Habs jersey.....

well Chelios isnt good enough for Detroit anymore BUT since when did we become the Detroit Redwings?

Ken Holland says he think Chelios can play still, so you take that for what it worth.

Give him the C? If he can sit on the bech and play 10 minute a night yes i would .

as for Claude lemieux ? he retire for 5/6 years...then tried to come back....
Chelios takes his shirt off he put us both to shame ....he keeps in great shape ...

again , no risk in this ...even if it take some focus off the team for a few months....

How will we replace Markov?

Who are the Ds available that could replace Markov...

Maybe Marc-Andre Bergeron (? great on PP)
Brian Campbell??
Hainsey??

Let us know your thoughts (who else could be interesting for the Habs??)

They just mentioned on TSN the possibility of Patrice Brisebois coming out of retirement...
