That's very close to being a terrible contract. He's not worth $3M per year, IMO, and that's a lot of years to be giving him too much.
Someone called him underrated earlier in the thread, but if anything he's been overrated by his high draft position and the fact that Columbus has been a bad team for so long. He's just not that good.
Oh, c'mon; anyone sensible stopped thinking about Klesla's draft position (and the accompanying hype) years ago. He's never going to be anywhere close to what MacLean swore he'd be. He is what he is - a serviceable #3-4 defenseman with an extra gear. $3M/year seems to be much better than the going rate for folks like that of late.
Frankly, given how unbelievably ****ty MacLean's draft record was for the first five years, getting any NHL players at all from that era is pretty much a bonus as is, let alone getting fair value for a pick.
Remember - when you're a hockey fan, it's not "reckless driving", it's "good forechecking".
