Last season we started by winning 4 games we totally didn't deserve, and the mouth breathing masses got all excited while others pointed out it wouldn't last.

I'd gladly lose the first 4 if they're going to play great the entire time, and wait and see how the season shakes out.

The Flames not so much. Lucky win for them tonight.
Completely agree. A lot of promise was shown. Hopefully we'll be getting all the weird and unlucky goals out of the way early.

DSF must be salivating all over his keyboard right now.

Hopefully... Hopefully, this makes Khabbi determined to take a handful of games for the boys. The rest of the game, aside from the PK and PP, was fine.

Sucked to lose, but the Oilers have won how many home openers, and missed the playoffs? Might be a good sign. Trying to find the silver lining.....

So.. very... funny. I think Habby needs to take up smoking again for the nicotine rush I hope he recovers next game.

Yes yes it is game 1 out of 82 but every win and every single point counts...Nevertheless this is probably the best home game the Oilers have played since, well i don't even know. The Flames got F'in destroyed tonight and if the game was played 5 on 5 the whole night the game would have been a blow out.

My stomach dropped when that happened. so brutal, oh well, the team did play well. lots of hits, but the bounces didn't go our way.

Is it really luck? At that point of the game, you keep it very simple. He chose one of the riskier plays he could've gone for, and blew it. That's not about luck. He better be well hydrated so he can redeem himself on Tuesday.

Agreed, outside of the empty feeling i had right after the game, i'm feeling surprisingly upbeat already...... I never had that feeling after any losses last year

Besides that huge gaff on the last goal, Khabi didn't have any chance on the rest he let in.

wow...I forgot what this felt like.. haha the feelign of screaming at the tv to a goal.. the facepalm at the end of the game... it's good to have hockey back =) haha game 1 boys.. game 1 and I'm very happy with how they played and stacked up against Calgary.

Let's hope they carry it over to the next one...

I'll give Khabbi a mulligan on it... 2 of the goals weren't his fault. Glencross's goal was Visnovsky's fault so.. it's okay =D

That was a fun game to watch. They played all 60 minutes.

By the way, Comrie looked exceptionally slow out there. He better not be planning on coasting the rest of the year after blowing all his effort on the pre-season.

Mind you, Stone just looked out of place. He's nice and gritty, but we have serious, serious depth problems on left wing.

We were 3-2 Even strength and 0-2 on special teams. Its obvious we can play 5v5 after outshooting Calgary really need to wok on the Special teams.

People should be pleased by the game overall if the Oilers compete like this every night were going to win and win alot

absolutely. Taking those shots created a ton of nice chances. On good nights, several of those will go in.

I'd like to add, in relation to this post, that other than special teams, the Oilers really need to keep working on the Quinn system. You can tell it's going to work really well, but off-sides, some bad passes and small but noticeable stretches of confusion were evident that the system still needs some time and work.

Hemsky threw 2 hits tonight. If that isn't a sign of a new culture here I don't know what is.

That was the most physical game the Oilers have played in a long time.

Tons of chances as well. We just didn't get rewarded around the net. It happens.

Very entertaining game minus the end.
