Holy smokes! Scalpers selling lower bowl tickets for $10?

No wonder they were talking about the team moving to Winnipeg during the second intermission.

let's see him score 2 when it's 0-0 and it'll make a difference

He's scored big goals for the team in the past. Not sure why that would be a concern.

I never liked Antropov and I am very happy to see that he has not magically improved his skating after being dealt. He is infuriating to watch. He will put up some decent numbers for you but will always leave you thinking that he could do so much more. With his size, strength and talent he could be a real star in this league but I have never seen the desire in him to excel that true star players have.

He is such a big body but he obviously didnt feel the need to use it last night in the home opener.

Too many times he was looking to pass first to Kovalchuk just throwing the puck somewhere in hopes of getting it to him.

Thanks for letting us sign him.

I hope he gets better later on this year.
You'll learn, Kovalchuk didn't want Antropov on his team because he doesn't know a good hockey player when he sees one.

You mean like the goal he scored on Thursday to tie it up 1 - 1 with Montreal?

Atlanta fans gave Antropov a big ovation on opening night. He made a great save in his own goalmouth when the Thrasher goalie was lost on the play. We're happy with Big Nic after the preseason and the opener.

And here's a bit of truth: Atlanta sold out the home opener and the Winnepeg rumor came from a Don Cherry comment in the Winnepeg paper that the city would get the first Florida team to leave. The mindless creeps on HNIC Hot Stove need to check Google Maps to see that Atlanta isn't in Florida. The Thrashers aren't going anywhere, they are tied to the most lucrative arena naming deal (Philips) in the league and the team doesn't carry any debt.

Now, back to the lecture at hand....

We are thrilled with Antropov, nice to see his linemate Bryan Little skate without being crushed every shift.

antropov is great if you use him right. he isnt very fast but his hand-eye coordination is excellent. he has good hands and big reach. he doesnt crush people with his size but he works the boards well and is very difficult to move from in front of the net. has a decent scoring touch. hes great on the PP, good on the PK, the quick transition game isnt his forte but he can dominate the low boards. very good at tipping shots, good wrister and snapshot.

I'm sorry, because I know where you're coming from, but I couldn't help but giggle when you used the word great with Antropov.

He's a solid player. Not a first liner, but a very good 2nd liner on almost any team in the league. Think of a guy like Trent Hunter but with a lot more to offer.

I'm happy for Atlanta. They picked some nice players this offseason, and as much as I want Kovalchuk in Toronto, I think a team like Atlanta, to save their franchise, needs to RETAIN this guy at all costs.

a 2nd liner on a good team maybe. i guess hes not exactly great. i liked him a lot because he was a product of his own team and he had so many problems and bloomed so late but they stuck with him and he turned into a 30g/30a guy who's fairly entertaining.

his stride looks awkward though, theres on ignoring that

Antropov is a good player, but he wanted too much money for his abilities. It also sucks relying on him because he gets injured all the time. He was probably the most talented forward we had last year, which says a lot about our talent up front I guess.

The 98 draft 1st round was weaksauce.

After LeCavalier, there really isn't anyone near Antropov worth taking in the 1st round over Nik except Gagne. You might make a case for Tanguay(maybe), or Gomez.

Antropov is not quick, never really has been. In his early days he was frustrating to watch, his size makes him slow...and it makes you think he can give you more.

Don't expect Antro to be more than a 20/20 guy. Kovalchuk just doesn't really match his skill-set. He is too quick for Antro.

Antropov will usually look like he isn't trying. I think he's trying, he just can't skate very well.

Plus he's probably afraid of busting one of his bum knees again. Still, he will put up some points for you.

LOL! who doesn't look slow on a line with Kova?

Frankly i think Kova and Antro will team up well. Kova wants the puck on his stick all the time, which will afford Antro the time and space to get down low for his type of goals. Not to mention Antros descent ability to come out of the corners with the puck and his solid passing skills.

I guess the question is whether Kovalchuk scores all his goals off the rush?

Antropov is good defensively, and an excellent passer, but if one thinks he's going to be leading the rush with Kovalchuk they'll be disappointed.

Puck skates better than anyone in the league anyway, so passing is just as important on breaks.

I'd argue the Leafs need a forward like him on this team. A big, power winger who can work the boards well. We only have one of those in Ponikarovsky and really, I don't think he matches up to Antropov's ability to dominate the boards.

Need more size in that top-six.

Marleau has decent size.

But we shouldn't hijack this to talk about who the Leafs need ...

Funny though, Leafs panic after 2 games? Seems to happen everywhere.

why is it that when teams lose they are straight to blame antro? we did it here aswell and i remember nyr fans complaining. hes a great passer and has a decent set of shots to go with pretty sound positional play. i think hes a pretty good player to go with kovalchuk, even without legs, thats what the wingers are for.

He made a good defensive play that probably saved a goal, and his linemate Ilya scored 2 goals.

Not a bad debut.
