The 2011 Classic?

Boston fan here, just wanted to ask if you guys expect, as I do, that the 2011 Winter Classic will(should?) be at Yankee Stadium and feature the Rangers against the Caps. I would probably come down for that. In any case, I'll be at MSG on the Saturday after Thanksgiving to watch BU play Cornell(just like last year). By the way, one week after this year's Classic, BU and BC will square off at Fenway, after a women's game between Northeastern and UNH. Go Gilroy!

I think Yankee Stadium announced they are having football games in Dec/Jan so there would be no time to build a rink for the winter classic.

I dont think that will be a problem. It would probably take a day to set up the rink, maybe less.

Nope. Yankee stadium pretty much said it isn't happening there due to the bowl game.

http://www.newsday.com/blogs/sports/...ronx-1.1489481

"According to Yankees president Randy Levine, Yankee Stadium is not in consideration for a future NHL Winter Classic. That's what he told Newsday's John Jeansonne after club executives announced the Yankees Bowl, a college football game which would be an annual event staged between Christmas and New Year's Day. For the Winter Classic, the NHL needs about six days to prepare a rink and refrigeration."

http://www.sportingnews.com/nhl/arti...k-taking-shape

"They will use 52,000 feet of plywood and 32,000 feet of decking in the project, along with 20,000 gallons of water to create ice and 350 gallons of paint"

"Craig said he also has much more time to prepare the entire project this time -- over two weeks, compared to eight days last year."

It takes a lot longer than 1 day to set up the rink, then they have to tear it down.

They'd be better off having it at Giants Stadium. More seating, and better shape for hockey than a baseball stadium.

As much as i'd love to go to Yankee's stadium to see the Rangers play, Giants stadium makes more sense.

with that said, as long as the Rangers play outdoors somewhere, I'll be going regardless of the venue chosen.

No offense to Met fans, but after this season I'm not sure I want the Rangers to be the home team at Citi Field. Beautiful ballpark, but not a great first season. However, I am totally in favor of the Islanders hosting a game there

In all seriousness, a yearly bowl game at the Stadium should be fun, but the fact that it takes away a chance to host the Winter Classic is unfortunate. Stadium officials have mentioned about the new Stadium being winterized, so it would be a perfect location, but with the time it would take to get the place ready for a game, it just wouldn't work out. I could definitely see the new Meadowlands Stadium getting the nod even if it appears that they prefer old-school ballparks.
