Hi Habs fans. I'm a Pens fan. I think this is a good signing for you. Pair him with Gill. Gill worked really well when paired with Letang on the Pens who at the time had a very similar skill set to MAB. They're basically polar opposites and for some reason that usually works for D pairings. (3rd pairing of course)

Anyway lets put all those negative points aside and let the guy play and see how he does. I'm glad for one thing, we replaced Souray--Streit--Scheinder point shot with MAB he as a really big shot.

He'll be addressing the media shortly, I really agree with the notion that you never have enough D-men, some of you are saying : wtf, what about Webber

Well you know what guys, seeing how crazy the injuries have been in Hamilton, If Webber or god forbid a guy like Hamrlik goes down

Do you call up Shawn Belle ?

Anyhow Bergeron is heading to Hamilton for a little while on conditioning stint so ...

Webber knows what he has to do

I know why our prospects takes so much time to develop, the organisation never believe in them.

Gonchar and Whitney went down for Pittsburgh last season. Pittsburgh didnt do anything but gives Letang and Goglioski a chance to prove themself which they did and they are both regulars in the line up now.
Is an UFA player like MA Bergeron was available last year? No...

And I think you forget Pittsburg acquired Philippe Boucher too after Gonchar and Whitney were out...

And you also forget that with MA Bergeron, the Habs only have 6 defensemen. Then, there's still room for Weber/Carle...

I see only upside to this deal. Not much of a hit against the cap, improves depth a bit and protects us in case of another injury on defense.

All upside this deal just the some other posters have said I can see maybe using him in a swing role like we did with Streit.

So it's ok for a player to play terrible as long as the goalie plays on his head?

Don't really like the signing but if he stays as a 7th dman then it's not so bad.

Just let him play and see how the situation plays out.

Subban, Carle, and Weber aren't ready.

So much negativity about players only 2 games into the year.

I still fail to see the problem.

For those complaining that this team doesn't give young players a chance: How old was Price when he started in the NHL? Latendresse? Pacioretty? Sergei K? etc.?

We now have 7 D including Weber. You need 7 D in case one goes down due to injury (which, with our luck, is not unlikely).

750K, people. Ya'll are acting as if Gainey signed this guy for 7.5 mil

You serious?

We have people already claiming we're ruining Pacioretty and D'Agostini and that we've already ruined Latendresse and you're saying our problem is we're too slow with our prospects?

Yep this one year, 750k deal for Bergeron really put the nail in the coffin of poor Weber's career. Cast aside forever at age 21...

Exactly! I can't believe that a player that had 35 pts and was +5 last year is beyond horrible defensively. Maybe he is, but let's him prove us that. I far as I know, put another name with that last year stat and we would praise getting him for that salary.

Everyone we bring up early; the Habs rushed them and are/have ruined their development

Everyone we wait and give time to develop; the Habs have waited too long and are stalling their development

God fans of this team are ridiculous. Ridiculously capable of being General Managers that is. Or Time traveling Psychics. Perhaps that's more accurate. That seems to be the way many fans operate. They can understand the inner workings of every prospects thought patterns and also always are ready to pat themselves on the back for any crazy claim that came true in the future, while also always knowing what the best move to make would be... after a year has passed.

Anyway, now I'm ranting. Studying is melting my brain and this board is a mega mind melt when my defenses aren't up.

I'll give Bergeron a chance to see what he can actually do for us himself. At this cost, and presumably seeing no action when we are healthy/if Weber plays better/we get no more injuries (I mean honestly, he is clearly our #8 defenseman AT BEST people, #9 if Weber is perceived as more useful, get over it!) I don't see how this is a bad move. He will definitely be better than Carle/Subban this year, they don't seem ready, and next year, obviously he shouldn't be here (nor would he be this year) in a relatively healthy season.

That's actually a good plan. Let him play a few games here and there, fill in, once the injured players return, Price does a quick tendon slash and BAM! Salary is off the books for LTIR, and he's out of our hair. It's genius. We should employ Carey's blades to do our cap management in the future.
