Stanley Cup Ring

I was wondering if Vancouver wins the Cup will Bert get a ring and his name on engraved on the Cup? Is there a rule where you have to play one game in the playoffs or if your suspended it is not granted to you? Thanks.

He's played enough games in the regular season to qualify to have his name on, but I heard that a stipulation of his punishment is that he would not get his name on it if the Canucks win the cup.

The doesn't make much sense if its true. You could play every 2nd playoff game and 3 out 4 in the SC finals, pot 14 points in 9 games and not get a ring?

Kind of OT, but I remember reading an article several years ago, in which sports memorabilia collectors/dealers were saying that a Stanley Cup championship ring was easily the hardest to come by, of all major sports championship rings.

The players just wouldn't give them up.

A player must have at least 41 games played with the club or one game played in the Stanley Cup Finals. However, in 1994 a stipulation was added to allow a team to petition the Commissioner for permission to have players' names put on the Cup if extenuating circumstances prevented them from being available to play.
Bertuzzi would qualify, as he's played more than 41 regular season games for the team this year. However, there may be a stipulation in his suspension that prevents him from getting his name on it should the Canucks win the Cup.

They count every time you are on the bench as a game played even if you don't touch the ice.

Red Wings lobbied for the third string goalie to be on the Cup a few years back.....I'm vaguely remembering Kevin Hodson....since he was on the team the entire year, but only got in a handful of games and didn't qualify under the normal circumstances.

I remember seeing some Stanley Cup show/DVD where the mid 80s Oilers braintrust snuck in a name of somebody not on the team, so the NHL actually had X's put over the name. So there should be an engraving like XXXX XXXXXXX on one of the Cups somewhere.

Name scratched out - "Basil Pocklington," father of former Edmonton Oilers owner, Peter, put his dad's name on the Stanley Cup in 1983/84; today, on the Cup, one can see a series of "Xs" over his name.

I do remember hearing something about that at the time it was announced. Although getting your name on the cup and getting a ring are two different things. AFAIK, Getting the former is at the discretion of the league while the latter is controlled by the club. I think that if the canucks won the cup, Bertuzzi wouldn't get his name on the cup but he'd probably get a ring from the team.

I don't think so. I didn't hear *anything* about any stipulation like that. In fact, it was the opposite, every report in the paper, phone call to the radio shows etc, all said "yes, he would be on the Cup because he played 41+ games".

I've never once heard of a stipulation that Bert's name wouldn't be on the cup. If a player is suspended 7 games in the Conference Finals, and the Cup Finals go 7 games, is he not worthy of being on the cup?

*He would get a ring

*His name would be on the cup

*He would be allowed to celebrate on the ice with his teammates.
