i think gagner being demoted has seriously lit a fire under his ass, he may have had a slight air of entitlement to him last year and in pre-season. it fantastic to see that he shouldn't have the early season struggles this season that he had the last 2 seasons, and being knocked down a couple pegs(or lines) by quinn seems to hopefully be the catalyst to some forward progression for gags.

Penner, Gagner, Cogs, and Souray were great.

Grebs, Hemsky, and Nilsson were all up and down.

Comrie and Sully were mostly invisible outside of the early goal.

Staios, the PK, and Horcoff were bad, although Horc picked it up a bit after the Penner switch

Bulin again with some unlucky bounces, but came up big when needed.

Good to get the 1st win. I am looking forward to Thursday's rematch.

He can PK and he's one of our second most physical forward next to Stortini IMO. He makes my bottom six with ease based on what we're working with.

Sasly i agree about Hemsky, his head just doesn't seem to be in the game, i thought he was unhappy playing under MacT and that's why he was moping around last year but i think that he's getting sick of being stuck with grinders, can you blame the guy?

I know it's only two games in, but Penner is making a lot of people on here look silly.

I'm fine with him making the bottom 6. But, I don't see any reason for him to go anywhere near a scoring line.

Might not be the worst thing for the team, really. I'm surprised the word "enigmatic" (hockeyspeak for "talented but inconsistent European) doesn't get thrown around more wrt Hemmer. Does bugger all for most of the night, then throws himself in front of a shot in the dying minutes and then scores the winner. Just a difficult player to read.

Good lines IMO, way better then what we started off with

I'd go with this...

Penner-Horcoff-Hemsky
O'Sully-Comrie-Stone/Moreau (When healthy)
Cogs-Gagner-Nilsson
JFJ-Brule-Stortini

That is a fantastic avatar... If you're referring to Nilsson he was pretty mediocre at best. The same soft play and giveaways that are the reason he's probably not going to last on this team but nice feed to Penner on his goal.

the question is - if he returns to his "regular" spot, does he still try to get under peoples skin and start fights? i have to admit, its kind of comical at his size, but ill give him credit for playing with guts lately as much as i give him a hard time.

Was interesting watching the game from the Dallas broadcast. Very bias announcers, but hey, that's Texas.

Hemsky showed moments tonight, but I'd really like to see him take one on one chances, especially on the PP, and just undress some people. He's got that ability, he should use it IMO.

Overall, great to see effort, and hitting. Man, what a differance a year has made in Edmonton. Nilsson looked good I thought overall. Some nice stickhandling, and showed good vision. Gagner keeps impressing. Yeah Penner! Go mofo.

Bulin, still shaky. But that's alright, we won. He'll get it together soon enough.

Mmm, I'm not so sure. Edmonton battled extremely hard, they were in unfavourable positions all night and pulled out a very gutsy win. Both teams had some bad bounces against them and in the 3rd & OT they [Edmonton] turned it on. Time of possession must've been split 50/50 I'd say.

It's also a big + that Edmonton can roll 4 lines virtually all game, I definitely like the strategy Quinn has been employing with splitting up the playing time and putting players/lines in different positions, everyone really seems to be buying into his system and doing the little things.

One thing is certain, that even though the Oilers don't have that big name scorer, they do have some nice offensive depth.

Also, Gagner had a wale of a game IMO. People are right when they say he looks like Doug Weight. Althugh I'd say there is a pinch of Forsberg in there too.

Penner's looked great but after two years of calling it I personally don't feel foolish after two games where he's been something completely different.

These are about the two best games in his tenure here.

A wish for more of the same.

the lines i'd like to see:

once pisani's back:
cogliano - gagner - hemsky
penner - comrie - o'sullivan
jacques/stone - horcoff - pisani
moreau - brule - stortini

until then:
cogliano - gagner - hemsky
penner - comrie - o'sullivan
jacques - horcoff - stone
moreau - brule - stortini

that was my thinking as well, i'd like him to keep playin with a bit a hate, like he is now, it just seems to make him a more dangerous player. and hopefully if he does start getting more ice time, this new attitude he seems to be sportin', will continue. i'm likin little mean gags...
