I don't know...you could be right. It's really hard to judge how guys are playing after just two games. The first game was just a sloppy game. Kings came out looking nervous and never really gained their composure. Last night they were great on even strength and just got beat up against a PP with some of the most dangerous players in the league. I'm optimistic and I don't really see any glaring weaknesses.

It was a good win last night, but let's not go overboard

30th in the NHL in GAA
Granted, they aren't going to allow 5 goals per game for the season, but this must improve.

29th in the NHL in SV%
83.1% is pathetic

27th in the NHL in FO%
41.9% is troublesome for a team that was #4 in this category last season at 52.0%

Could he maybe have stopped a couple of those? Yeah, but they would have been great saves.
This is spot on. Anyone saying Quick didn't have a good game must not have been watching. He had a couple of huge saves on Marleau (as you mentioned) and also on Thornton down low on a mad scramble where he had already lost his stick making other big saves.

Their PP was awesome and our PK was terrible. As you said, it would have been nice if Quickie could have made another huge save on one of those attempts, but I was even more impressed that he continued to show his mental strength and was rock solid the rest of the way.

It's a little unfair to pull out the rankings after 2 games. Just like it would be unfair for people to say Kopitar is on pace for 209 points and our powerplay will remain at 50%. After about 20 games we'll start to see much more realistic "on pace for" arguments.

Don't be such a downer. The team's powerplay % is so good, it's even better than the penalty kill%!!!!!!!!

*edit*

At 25% PK, I didn't even realize they killed penalties on Saturday - Kings sure didn't do that last night.

This early into the season, the only stat that really matters is that we're 1 and 1.

This one is on Doughty, he should of checked his stick instead of trying to move Blake out, its a youngster move he'll figure it out though. But once Blake is there, he ain't moving unless he decides to. But if Doughty took away the stick, no goal.

I agree, which is why I don't blame Quick on that one.

So, players fault or the coaches, not sure if players just go over the boards or they get a tap from the coach, but the penalty did suck.

If you want to talk about a penalty that sucked, don't look any further than Frolov's double minor. That penalty made it a 4-3 game.

Mental error vs. physical error. The double minor did suck really bad, but more unlucky than anything. The too many men penalty is just unexcusable.

ya, someone quoted a rule on that, bummer call, bad luck and all that. As soon as they called the 4 min, I knew we were in trouble. They battled the adversity great though, coming together as a TEAM. and someone said Captain California to the rescue.

Optimism is great, but there's a huge difference between scraping a few wins together against tough opposition and being a championship team. Look at how the Red Wings organization as an example. Every year despite injuries and mediocre goaltending they are in it to win it.

A bad penalty here, poor face off %, and missed opportunities (clearing the zone or a shot wide) add up over the season. It's up to the coaching staff and the players to make these corrections on the ice and get them to the next level.

No glaring weaknesses?

The Kings have been terrible in their own zone. If it wasn't for Quick bailing them out early in the game, they lose this one easily.

johnjm22 got it right - the poster I was responding to said that there were no glaring weaknesses. Of course it's too early for the stats to mean much, but they do indicate areas of concern - even TM said in an interview that he was concerned about the FO%.

Call it what you want, but the general consensus was that, going into the season, the Kings were weak defensively and their goalies lacked experience. I haven't seen anything so far to change that evaluation.
