I like the Eurpean style of game. Some of my all time favorite players are European and alot of them play a tough hard nosed game of hockey. I hate having them as captains in the NHL. I feel the vast majority of Euro captains in the league are weak and their C does not mean alot to the NA players. Is Sundin the leader of the Leafs? Maybe we all think he is but TO has a lot of older NA guys that have a lot of leadership abilities. Roberts, Newendyke(?), Domi, Leetch, and Francis just to name a few. I think when the going gets tough the team will be leaning on these guys to carry them through. Sundin may have the C because he is the best player not the best leader. Same story in Vancouver with Naslund. The best player on the team but does he have the respect of teamates as a leader? I don't know for sure but it did not take Burke long to bring back the old stand-by Trevor Linden. They are going to need someone who has proven he can carry a team a long ways on his back during the playoffs. Naslund has the ability to do so, but never has as of yet. The players in the Vancouver locker room look to TL to lead come playoff time. The captain of Ottawa, DA is a good player and fairly good leader but don't you think there might be a better C in that room somewhere else?
I know the title of Captain is symbolic and really means nothing when it gets right down to it, leaders lead no matter what letter is on their chest, but why not put it on your true leader, not your best player.
Congrats! You have shamed everyone from Edmonton with this bigoted post.
Agreed. I'm aghast this guy is from Edmonton. For what its worth, I think Naslund is one of the best captains in the NHL. He's got tons of class, scores the big goals for his team, is consistent as all heck and he's very blunt and honest during the media scrums after games. He was one who used the "Choke" word last season (or earlier?) when the Canucks failed to win home ice advantage in the playoffs.
