So we need Jay Harrison's "toughness" and the absolute lack of skill he brings along with it instead of a defenseman who can actually move the puck and contribute to the offense? Three goals scored in three games and absolutely horrific powerplay can at least partially be attributed to having exactly ONE skilled defenseman in the lineup (not counting the nine minutes Pitkanen played in the last game). We already have a bunch of "physical" defensemen in the lineup....Jay Harrison is beyond redundant on this roster.
That's the problem.
That's not really saying much. They both belong in the AHL or in Europe.
I'm not saying that we shouldn't have another defenseman up in his place, I just said I don't understand the dislike of him. He brings some more heart and soul to the team, a willingness to drop the gloves and a physical game. We have what we have on the team right now, people have to deal with that for now until management makes a change.
And I have to disagree with your statement that we have a bunch of "physical" defenseman in the lineup. Alberts and Gleason are pretty much it (I would include Ward, but he is past his prime).
Harrison has some work to do on his overall game, that's for sure, but he's nowhere near as brain fart prone as Wallin. He needs some time, but he'll win you guys over before the season is over.
I agree with you on Harrison. I like him, personally. And really, to sit around and put down Harrison or throw the dirt at him is a bit foolish to me. He's played 2 of our 3 games (Phi & Bos). I thought he looked good vs. Philly, and really, who didn't look bad vs. Boston last weekend? He didn't play vs. Tampa. Not sure where he's been so bad. Maybe he's the whipping boy. If you wanna critisize our defence as a whole in terms of how it's been put together, fine, but I don't think Harrison is to blame. Too bad we didn't have Babchuk, our defence would be so much better.
