have to hope they can go back to '08 level team D.
If I were a religious person, I'd pray for the Flying Circus to be reunited. Do it Babcock, we know you want to!

We have TONS of guys who can step up and be 20G/50 point guys.

As a side not, now that Franzen's 3.9M is essentially off the payroll, we should take a look at Zherdev. 1 year, 2M.

Cleary - Datsyuk - Filppula
Zherdev - Zetterberg - Bertuzzi
Williams - Helm - Leino
Maltby - Draper - May

I'd be fine with that.
Zherdev already signed in the KHL.

Any forwards worth having are gone.

Maybe we shouldn't've balked at paying Hudler 3 million so that we could sign Todd Bertuzzi and Jason ****ing Williams and keep Valterri "I'll never score 20" Filpulla.

1) I think Zherdev signed a deal in Russia and is already playing there.

2) This injury underscores the importance of Z NOT GETTING EFFING INJURED this year.

3) **** my life

4) Why not give Shanny a call and a tryout? He could at least contribute on the PP

What happens when Franzen is ready to come back? Waive Maltby?

it's sad, but it happens. now it's time for the kids to step up. we have good depth and all of sudden enough cap room. time to use it.

Keep Franzen on LTIR until the playoffs start, when there is no salary cap? It's not like he's going to be back much before then, anyway.... if he's even ready to go in the playoffs

Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom
Leino-Filppula-Cleary
Bertuzzi-Helm-Williams
May-Draper-Abdelkader/Eaves

Honestly, does that really look all that bad?

He won't be ready. And, like I said elsewhere, the Wings will just keep him on LTIR for as long as they can.

To be honest, I'm suddenly a lot more excited about the season. Some real adversity, the chance to see what Hank and Datsyuk can do playing 22 minutes a game, maybe 4-5 on the PP, a chance to see Abs get a ton of games, a chance to see if Leino and Filppula can take the next step in bigger roles, and a chance to see if Williams and Bertuzzi can re-establish themselves.

And of course, cap space to make the deadline a little more interesting.

We'll be fine. We're a veteran team, and we had just as much depth the year we won the cup in 2008 as we do now.

If he recovers in the minimum 4 months that takes us to early February. The playoffs start in April. You would keep him on LTIR for nearly 2 months when he could be out their getting ready for the playoffs?

This blows donkey balls.

Well people are going to have to step up, and play better team defense too.

The only player I've ever heard of recovering that quickly from a torn ACL is Chelios. Someone as big & heavy as Franzen is going to take longer. So that February timeframe is most likely way too optimistic.

As I said, we'll be lucky if Franzen is even ready to go when the playoffs start. I see no reason he couldn't be on LTIR until then. He is allowed a couple weeks in the AHL for conditioning, too, you know. So it isn't like he'd have to sit idle that whole time.

This is my proposed line combos, as I posted at KK, very similar to Fabric Details' lines:

Zetterberg - Datsyuk - Holmstrom/Cleary
Leino - Filpulla - Williams
Cleary - Helm - Bertuzzi/Abdelkader/Eaves
4th line is Draper with two of: Abdelkader, Eaves, Maltby, Holmstrom, May

I don’t want to break up the Filpulla line as they have been so good. Cleary and Helm worked really well together last season, have them be our third line nucleus (unless Homer starts sucking large and Cleary needs to play on the top line).

Don’t sign anyone Kenny, don’t trade anyone either. Make the kids hungry and have to fight for their place in the Central. We could use the grit and tenacity come the postseason.

Holland should also take this opportunity to rotate some AHL kids in and out as well.

You can't count it out though. It may not be a complete tear because if it was, I am sure Kenny would have stated he will be out all season. And it wasn't a big hit that caused this and he was still able to kind of shake it off, so it can't be that bad.

And maybe, if we're lucky, the insanely high expectations people hang on this team every year will get a little more reasonable.

True. But they are not going to trade him before the deadline. At the trade deadline the asking price will be sky high and the Wings have no chance to match offers from other teams

A dose of reality would be refreshing. Both the team and the fans need it.

That's the way the bones roll I guess. Lets bring the kids up and let them play this season. We can sneak into the playoffs at the wire with everyone healthy and surprise everyone... 2010 Finals here we come!!! (pass it over to me... I need another hit off of that bottle!)

Sucks for Franzen though. Bad bad bad for the Wings.
LOL You are so lucky. I saw that trade and thought you had to be crazy, crazy genius.

This sucks so much though, ****. We need FRANZENSTEIN!
