Hockey in Quebec ( NHL )

There will be some sort of big announcement on Thursday according to RDS about a new buliding in Quebec City.

I hope not...

I like the fact tat ever since Quebec moved, I get all 82 games on RDS without having to subscribe to the NHL package.

If Quebec comes back we will lose some of those games.

Dude that would be soooo cool, we could get rid of R Tremlay, M Bergeron, A Crete and all the other EX NORDIQUES journalists and fans. We could have our Habs Back !

That is a positive if this was to happen, Quebec would become that hated place to play because of the French media and no longer Montreal....

I didn't think of it from that angle!

I doubt it.

I think RDS would still show the 82 games of the habs.

TVA, Radio-Canada and V would show games of the team in Quebec.... and RDS/RIS/TSN/CBC would probably broadcast a few games too.

You have a good point that would really benefit us and people would actually want to play here

To be honest I don't really care. I would not necessarily be against it but I am not big on the idea of my taxes going towards helping pay for this. If they want a new arena then pay for it.

If the NHL is ever to go back to Quebec, look for Quebecor to be in the deal so they can have hockey to show in there futur new channel "TVA sport"

Enven though I live in Quebec City, I'd still be a habs fan... I can't just change teams like that...

It's also been reported Quebec City mayor Régis Labaume and former Nordiques president Marcel Aubut met with Gary Bettman friday.

http://www.cyberpresse.ca/sports/hoc...a-new-york.php

It would be awesome to have the rivalry back. With the huge popularity of the Canadiens and professional sport in general and how good Quebec City is doing thes days it would be war if the Nordiques returned.

Can you imagine the ire of Hamilton fans if Phoenix was moved to Quebec City of all places!

Doubtful that would happen though, Penguin seems intent on getting a team in that bastion of hockey, Kansas City.

I would loooove if Quebec got a team. That rivalry was one I'd relish and it would take some of the spotlight and pressure off the Habs.

I say quebec before Hamilton!

That's because you're a youngin. If you were old enough to have seen the rivalry between the Habs and the Nordiques, you might feel differently.

What's funny is that every time a player gets sent down to the Bulldogs, some smart ass makes that comment: ''He's not gonna be able to party there, that's for sure!''. If they want an NHL team in Hamilton there must be some nightclubs right?!

BTW whoever thinks all the french media would migrate to Quebec are lunatics. Habs coverage would be worse with a team in QC simply because the rivalry would draw more interest.

No not all French journalists, just the ones who migrated to Montreal for job purposes, when the Nords were sent packing. Like the Tremblays and Bergerons and Cretes of this world !

I don't see it happening. Bettman said, and I agree, that there will be no expansion.

As for relocation, well look how hard the NHL is battling to keep a team in Phoenix that is a financial disaster instead of moving it to best market available in north America (south Ontario) for the NHL. Now you think they will move a team in Quebec city? not happening...

Maybe one day when Bettman will be gone and a few other markets will get their teams first...maybe

If the Nordique/Habs rivalry came back I'd be all for a team in Quebec, but I doubt that it happen.

And I don't think this article is proof enough.

I would love to see NHL hockey back in Quebec City.

I think the odds of seeing it happening are getting better and better. As opposed to Balsillie's, I like Aubut and Labeaume's way of approaching this project. They know that they need to discuss possibilities with Bettman and co. before doing anything else. IMO Aubut brings credibility to the project and discussing the idea with Bettman BEFORE making crazy 'hostile' offers is the best strategy...

That way the NHL gets the vibe that you are ready to take the regular road (discreet) to obtaining a franchise, and not the rude, flamboyant, shortcut road that offends the other owners so much...

kudos to Quebec City people for trying to work WITH the system and not AGAINST it... I don't like Bettman and the way he manages this league, but it's always a good strategy to suck up to the Boss...

Most of the negative journalism surrounding this team is generated by the french media. Much of the controversy with the team has been language based. Their is a blatant bias by some journalists in Quebec towards having franco players and pressuring management to sign and draft franco players.

There has always been pressure of this type in montreal, and there always will be. A team in Quebec will take some of the more vehement reporters with regard to language away from the habs. Quebec City is more likely to draw the "separatist" hockey fan. Montreal has always been seen as the more multicultural and "Anglo" city. Pequiste journalists would naturally invest more resources to the Quebec team.
