The Goalscorers Race Thread (Olympic Break Update)

EDIT: This thread is also to discuss the goal count across the league.

OLYMPIC BREAK UPDATE

42 - Ovechkin (54GP), Crosby (61GP)

38 - Marleau (62GP)

35 - Gaborik (59GP), Stamkos (61GP)

32 - Kovalchuk (55GP), Heatley (62GP)

30 - Semin (53GP)

-------------------

Who will score the most? Rank them in terms of predicted goals scored by the end of the season.

I say:

1) Heatley - 52G
2) Marleau - 45G
3) Setoguchi - 38G

for bragging rights, i'm really looking forward to the points race between the top guys for WSH and SJ. Not sure how you compare it, by line? (i always thought this to be confusing b/c of powerplay, the oddball line combos, etc) or by individual? green vs. boyle, semin vs. seto, backs vs. thornton (assists), heater vs. AO (goals), etc... i know there's a thread on the main board talking about the comparison.

I was just talking about this to a bud, and I think people are looking at it wrong.

Ovy > Heatley (ya, not much doubt)
Thornton >> Backstrom
Marleau >> Semin
Seto > Knuble?

Boyle >> Green (Boyle plays defense, and doing it incredibly well too)

That's without talking about guys like Blake, Pavs, Vlasic, etc. People keep leaving Marleau out of the comparison because he's on the second line, which isn't fair. He's on the second line for balance because we have too many good players.

JFYI that puts Patty on pace for 28 the rest of the year (currently on pace for 63). I don't expect him to hit 50, but I think I will be surprised if Marleau doesn't exceed 40.

Also, Western Conference leading goal scorers:

Marleau-7
Setoguchi-7

Heatley-6

Smyth-6 (actually should be higher because he has played fewer games, but I prefer having the top 3).

Kopitar-5
Sharp-5
Morrow-5
Penner-5
Brunette-5

Bourque-4
Brule-4 (WTF he is point per game)
Perry-4
Wolski-4
Byfuglien-4
Holmstrom-4
Selanne-4

Vesce is too low, he's on a goal per game pace. 75 goals for him and the rookie scoring record.

He'd need 77 for that.
