Domi the hypocrite

I'm sure most of you heard Domi's indignant self-righteous response to Bondra using the word "war" to describe the upcoming so-called "Battle of Ontario":

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=79333

Domi was outspoken on another matter. Senators forward Peter Bondra was quoted in Ottawa as saying of the series, "It's going to be a war, I guess." With U.S. marines dying in Iraq, Domi finds the analogy inappropriate.
"I think using the word war is getting a little stupid, especially for this rivalry," said Domi. "I don't think it should be used. It's not appropriate. I think out of respect to the real war that is going on it shouldn't be used and media people should think about that, too. Those guys are fighting a real war. I think it's insulting and disrespectful to them. What we do is a game. It's a hard-fought game, a physical game and those are things we should talk about. That (war) word shouldn't be used in this series. It's not right. It's disrespectful. There's people losing their lives over there in a real war."

.

Okay, now here's a few quotes from Dummi himself:

http://www.findarticles.com/cf_dls/m.../article.jhtml

"Hockey is such a humble sport Because everyone's clock is ticking. And once it stops, it stops. That's it. We're all in the same boat Most of us were brought up the same way. We're like a big fraternity. But when we get on the ice--it's war."

http://www.canoe.ca/2000NHLPlayoffsO...pr20_fig2.html

The Battle of Ontario has turned into a war. At least according to Tie Domi it has. Domi said after last night's game at the Corel Centre that the Battle of Ontario is too weak a title for what has turned into a best-of-three series. "We've got a war going on," said Domi.

http://www.canoe.ca/2000NHLPlayoffsO...pr18_sen2.html

Following the game Domi said he would have been disappointed had the Senators not come out hard. "Nobody said it was going to be easy," said the Leafs tough guy. "It's a war. Everybody's hitting and everybody's getting hit."

http://www.canoe.ca/2000NHLPlayoffsO...apr16_the.html

Domi denied he was attempting to show up the Senators. "It's a war out there," he said. "By no means were we being cocky. They've got a lot of guys who like to talk a tough game out there, like Van Allen."

http://www.canoe.ca/2000NHLPlayoffsO...5_ott_tor.html

Said Domi: "It's a war out there. Whatever is said on the ice stays out on the ice, but we weren't being cocky. We were just playing hard and rolling four lines over. When you get a lead like that, everybody is going to be playing."

Ummm yeah, whatever Tie....

Yah, keep in mind Domi is an idiot. So don't take him too seriously. If he weren't playing hockey it is not like he'd be an investment banker, if you know what I mean.

Keep this in mind as well: All these articles, except one are four years old. The other one is a year old.

I was going to say something around those lines as many peoples opinions on war changed since 2001, but the one article still throws me off.

So if he hasn't said it lately he's not a hypocrite??

BTW, that "one" quote was in April/03, the Iraq war started in March/03.

Besides, the point is that sports have been likened to "war". Don't believe me? Google it. Did you miss the fact that virtually every media outlet refers to this series as "the Battle of Ontario"?

And yet Domi the hypocrite tries to get all self-righteous and sactimonious on us by coming down on the use of "war" as a description.

But oh nooooo, you just defend your precious Leaves at all costs. Battle for them on message boards. Engage in every War of Words.

Is it so hard for you to see that Domi is stupid?

Uh-oh it , isn't it??

= )

That's funny. Hard to see Domi is stupid?
Makes me wonder how someone who probably hasn't done squat in their life calls someone who is making millions stupid . And if stupid people made millions all the time, you wouldn't be on these boards.
Between you, me and Domi, he's probably the smarter one out of us three.

You don't have to be smart to make money, Domi makes it because he's good at hockey. How many NBA players are in the mensa society? I'm guessing not many.

Domi tried to use the war in Iraq to put himself on some sort of twisted moral high ground. Kind of ironic for such a dirty player.

FWIW as a person who has a brother in Iraq right now, I have absolutly no problem with anybody referring to a playoff hockey game as a war. There are a lot of similarities between a playoff series like this and a war including the commoradorie between teammates, the willingness to sacrifice yourself for the good of the team. If Bondra had said "this series is as tough as the war in Iraq" that would have been a different issue, but he didn't.

I think the Habs fans should worry about the Bruins and quit whining about Tie Domi before they learn the hard way what WAR means!

Domi doesn't say the smartest things, but then again, neither does Bush.
But I don't know if it is smart to argue that a successful millionaire is stupid. It just doesn't wash.
There is a reason why he is playing in the NHL for so long. Maybe he is smart at what he does.

i guess all of domi's community services throughout the community is done cause he's stupid?

Domi is quite intelligent and a very thoughtful person... he has matured in the last year or two. It shows in his attitude, game and what he says. call it stupid... i call it maturity!

If only more hockey players would treat the fans, kids especially as good as he does...

I'm no Bush fan either, believe me. And I never said that Domi was stupid, but I don't think that the fact that he's a millionare says anything about his intelligence.

For some reason, goons always get the most credit for community service. Brashear, Barnaby, Domi and McKenzie, have all received praise for it. I'm not sure why that is, I suspect it has to do with PR for the team, but I can't say for sure. What I can say is that I base my opinion of a player by the way he conducts himself on the ice, and sometimes, in the media. If guys like Peter Worrell and Tie Domi want to help kids out, I think that's great. But it doesn't affect my opinion that they're dirty players that the league would be better without.

A better league for whom?
My ideal league would have all those aforementioned guys.
But just cause we may think someone is stupid, does that make them stupid? And then trying to convince other poeple that they are stupid?

My comments were originally in response to ToeBlake. He feels Domi is stupid cause he's got Toeblake all up in arms at every little thing Domi is saying.
Makes you wonder who is really the stupid one: the poster or the millionaire $$Domi$$???

Well the 'dim, hypocrite, stupid' Domi is still far more successful than anyone that we know. He was wanted by several teams during his free agency last year.

He is a tough guy and a hockey player and very good at what he does.

He is even a better person off the ice. Just ask the Breast Cancer research group. When they needed funding and a spokesperson to create the awareness, here comes along a 'Stupid' guy to give a helping hand.

Maybe no one explained to the Sens fans: Hockey Players are not stupid, never have been and prolly never will be. It's an emotional game that we as fans can only imagine.

I guess in Ottawa, if you don't like somebody, your stupid.

They will soon find out that Hockey players may do stupid things, but they certainly are not stupid people.

He'll burn through his cash fast ... i'd say within 7-10 years of retirement , he'd be out of money. I don't find making 150k consistently over 30 years inferior to making 1.5 M for 5 years and then nothing for the rest of his life . If Laughs fans can't even admit that Domi is a dim wit , then they are hopeless.

Dim wit? why? cause no Sens can beat him up?

I can imagine how much you guys hate him after years of watching him pummel the Sens. Guys like Arvedsson being compared to a woman, taking Domi's wrath like many other Sens.

I probably would be pissed too and start calling him all these names.

But the reality is that he knows what he is doing and is getting paid very well at it. No reason to be jealous cause he has paid his dues to get there.

Going strictly by what we know of the three of us from our quoted words, I'd say you and Dummi together are about as "smart" as my droppings. If you'd excuse the analogy of course.

Well of course you wouldn't know, would you?

Here, allow me to bring you up to speed there Bright Eyes.

There are lots of stupid millionaires. Some get to be millionaires by inheritance. Others because they happen to be good athletes. Is Mike Tyson "smart"?

Well maybe from your perspective, he is.

It's all relative afterall, eh wot?

I mean to certain species of invertibrates, even Domi is "smart".

"Smart" is a whole new ballgame.

I must commend you though. I've never seen someone even attempt to use the words "Domi" and "smart" in the same sentence before. And your sentence almost, remotely, slightly made sense!!

Oh wait, it didn't....

:lol

Well I suppose if a stupid person thinks someone is stupid, they could very well be mistaken. But when someone of even average intelligence spots a moron, you can take that to the bank sweetpea.

So you're gunna hafta trust me on this one (you really are in no position to do otherwise): Domi is stupid.

Though again, from your perspective (relatively speaking), perhaps not....

In closing, let me add, dear TrueBlue, that the tems "stupid" and "successful" are not mutually exclusive. For example, you TrueBlue may merely sling burgers at McDonalds, but that doesn't make you "stupid".

What makes you stupid is your expressed thoughts.

As seen upon message boards for instance.

And/or your passionate position on certain subjects.

(Your claims that Domi is not stupid for example.)

And no, i would not like fries with that....

Sorry if I crossed the line there Wally.

I guess when the subject matter is "stupidity" (i.e. how stupid is Domi) it just begs for posters to hurl accusations of stupidity around (it is a relative term).

In my defense though, I'm not even a Sens fan (though I am cheering for them in this series). I came to a Sens board to poke fun at Domi. I never expected to be attacked by Leaf fans.

What are they doing here anyway?
