Goals at last, goals at last, thank God almighty for Goals at Last!

The Good -

- Scoring!!
- Vanek with a pair and a nice hit before leaving.
- Roy... three helpers.
- MacArthur-Connolly-Pominville continue to buzz.
- Hank Tallinder... +5?!?
- Tyler Myers with an awesome drive for an assist and a +3
- Kaleta-Gaustad-Ellis with a pair of goals. Hell, Kaleta with 1 and 1.
- Miller on the penalty shot and overall.
- Rivet with some snarl clearing his own zone. I like him and Butler for all the right reasons -- not noticing anyone they were out against. Butler lead all defense with 22:38 in ToI.
- 37 shots. On the WINGS? WTH.

The Bad -

- Losing Vanek. He just looked like he was starting to wake up.
- Hank will get some grief for the PS. As he should.

The Ugly -

- 16 pages of Kaleta thread? Seriously.
- That people can't get past that Tallinder and Pominville and Roy and Hecht have played far better than they're willing to give them credit for so far.

Sabres Rattle Red Wings

Good:
-The goals came around and the top 6 put up some points
-Miller was good, not great, but very good.
-Myers is going nowhere
-Tallinder was initiating contact
-Kaleta with a goal!!!
-Great team defense
-38 to 25 in shot count
Dominating a team that has not only had our number, but was a stanley cup finalist the last 2 years

Bad:
-PK was a little shaky at times

Ugly:
-Vanek hurt

lol merged. Those sprung up pretty quick.

I thought this was Myers' worst game and he was +3.

Awesome:
Myers. Awe. Some.

Good:
The whole bottom six.
The flood gates finally opening.
Osgoal getting chased.

Bad:
Vanek hurt? Let's hope not.

Ugly:
Not a damn thing. Not even Tallinder.

There wasn't one guy who didn't play well, save for Lydman, really. And it wasn't as though Toni was bad at all. Very impressed.

I thought the Sabres set the tone right from the opening shift with Kaleta's line.

Great team effort tonight. I don't think DET played badly, they were just outworked by a team who wanted it more. When was the last time we said that about the Sabres? (edit: It's been a decade since we said that about the Bills.)

Kennedy continues to look good.

Jimmy Howard was OK.

If there's any minor complaint I would make, it's that Connolly had moments where he wasn't that strong on the puck. But I am reaching.

Outside of the obvious things to like about this game, I really liked the reactions of Rivet and Grier after the 2nd Wings goal. Even in a blowout they were genuinely POed that they allowed another goal. The team is really taking this new approach seriously.

Good:
Kaleta with a multi-point night.
Myers and Butler leading the team in ice time and looking good on the points of the PP.
Puck possession system is working.
Calling it before the game, Detroit being beat at their own game.

G:

Everything (mostly). But in particular:
--Vanek on the second goal. He started that by swiping the puck away from the Red Wing guy on the backcheck which set up the entire chance
--Roy on the first Vanek goal. Great aerial pass there.
--Stafford looks like he's ready to be that power forward we've been waiting for...hopefully he can keep this up
--The 4th line doing what they do best--and scoring a couple goals to boot. They took the opening shift against the Datsyuk line and pinned them in their own zone, really setting the tone for the entire game
--Myers...nuff said
--The entire defense played well today, no complaints. Lydman's first game back was uneventful...which for a defenseman is a good thing.
--Kennedy still doesn't want to go back to Portland, does he??

B:
Yeah, I'm going to nitpick a bit here.
--The PP is still giving up glorious SH chances
--A few miscues defensively, but they covered for them
--The PK was too passive leading to the first goal

Nothing too bad, though. All the 19 guys contributed to this win on all 200 feet of the ice.

The Good:

Everyone But...

The Bad:

Connolly, the turn-over machine...who got a little better towards the end of the game. That one Tallinder give-away was kinda ugly, but didn't make a difference.

Ugly:

The Red Wings' effort in periods 2, 3...

Yes, we outscore the Bills.
OK, so I was off by a goal on each side, and the softie never happened.

Good
Miller- Wasn't relied heavily on but came up big when they needed him. The save on the PS was nice.
Pommers- I liked his game tonight, lots of effort and 2 assists help this team.
Myers- It's nice to see him join the rush and give Detroit fits.
Montador- Steady and physical.
Roy- 3 assists is a nice game.
Stafford- He's got that drive this year, he's only going to get better.
Vanek- Looked great before the injury. 2 Goals is always nice.
Kennedy- Was creating some nice chances.
Talinder- looked good for the most part but a few questionable plays

Bad

None

Ugly

Miller's GAA is gonna go up.

After watching Myers skate that puck up the ice, I don't even care who he's paired with anymore. Tallinder? Sure!

That was just awesome to watch. And Kaleta driving home the rebound? Just too perfect for me.

Nice to see Gaustad continuing to win important faceoffs. Just like he has all year.
