Why wouldn't he? Hensick is godawful (and a center), Galiardi has been great in a checking role (and playing center), and O'Reilly is a center.

The Avalanche are winning, David Jones made a big impact in his return to the line-up, and last game Duchene centered a line with Tucker and Svatos - both players who have 2 goals each.

I've posted this in a couple threads, and gotten interesting response, so why not toss it out for discussion again:

Colorado gets:

Drury
Girardi

NYR get:

Liles
Hensick
Clark

Salaries work this year.

Colorado has plenty of space to add Drury's 3m more than Liles in the years to come as well, and he would be a good winger for Duchene. Girardi slots nicely on a middle pairing for years to come.

NYR lose the Drury cap headache, add a good PMD with a decent contract, add a vet defenseman they've talked about getting, and get an undersized top 6 center prospect caught in a numbers game in Colorado.

Looking at this from an NYR perspective, can they afford to trade away another top 6 center when they're thin in that area to begin with?

It's way too early in the season to be considering all possible wingers the Avs have as a fail when it comes to playing with Duchene. For now mess around with combinations of Jones, Stewart, Galiardi, and Svatos. Give the young guys time to find their game and get used to playing together. Our offense may not be at the top level quite yet, but I really like what we have and think we can make it work. Patience.

Because playing better doesn't help you get that top 5 pick.

I'd do it, but Av's management won't.

Maybe Avs management believes signing high priced UFA's doesnt always work.

Doesn't shoot, jumps off sides, has a bizarre habit of getting injured right after the deadline.

Value seems fair, but I personally wouldn't want Drury or his contract, back in Colorado.

The secret about Tanguay is how soft he is. Takes very little responsibility defensively, and if you're going to do that, you need to put up some absurd point totals to justify having a spot on the roster. Tanguay doesn't do that.

How old is Gagne again? He's under 30 right?

Would Liles+ be of any interest to you guys?

He turns 30 in February. I don't know about Liles being what the Flyers need, but I would want a decent (2nd line or close to it) forward and a top-4 defenseman.

EDIT: And the Flyers cannot take on salary, so we may need to send another player in a deal.

If that's really what it would take, (Hannan or Liles) + (Svatos or Stewart) should be what you want. I think you're way under-valuing Gagne though.

That was just the baseline of things that would have to come back.

I heard Peter Forsberg plays the wing quite well.
Wouldn't have to give up anything (except salary) to get him either.
