I'd rather dump one of these plugs now for a more liquid asset that can be moved at the deadline for a real upgrade.

It's also exciting to see McPhee deal for a pick. He always does better than he should.

Filatov is already signed. They'd just have to bring him back over (which I don't see being a problem)

That might be interesting.

TSNBobMcKenzie: Shaone Morrison[n] was another [defenseman Howson was looking at].

FriedmanHNIC: I would be shocked if George McPhee traded Alzner, unless it's for someone much better than Filatov.

Portzline thinks if Columbus were to move a forward back (somewhat needless but whatever) it would be Chimera or Torres in that order.

Hell, maybe it's Poti.

I'd be fine with Chimera...I guess...just don't see the need.

Torres...can't stand the guy.

Chimera = Rico Fata part 2

I'd rather have a pick or prospect.

Sounds like something could very well be pending:

FriedmanHNIC: 30 Thoughts holding as we await confirmation. Praised Scott Howson for not making any crazy panic moves and just want to see final deal.

If the Caps somehow landed Filatov for pick(s) and a surplus defenseman, without dealing Alzner...

I just don't see why they would add a NHL forward at this point, unless it's a PK specialist who is a significant upgrade over what they already have.

Interesting news...I agree with those that think it is one of the other dmen, not Alzner, potentially on the move in a deal.

Morrisonn or Jurcina the most logical ones...could the Poti scratches have something to do with this...much more likely he is dealing with an injury.

Never say never, but acquiring Filatov does not seem like something McPhee would do at this time. Could be interesting if he does...

One thing I'll say about the Filatov talk, he's an ideal replacement for Semin after 10-11.

True, but if they are dangling him in a decent deal that at the same time, would free up some cap space for the deadline while allowing Alzner to get prime playing time down the stretch, I could see him pulling the trigger on something like that.

Oh, absolutely. It would put the screws to Semin and Gandler, gaining the Caps back a bit of leverage, a good 18 months before the Caps and Semin have to face the music, and not 72 hours since Semin gained all the leverage versus the Caps. It would be quick work.

Make no mistake, Filatov is Semin v2.0, minus the enigma. He's affable and he made an effort to learn English.

Alzner's not going anywhere. It's either "his turn" to sit, or Boudreau is showcasing a few guys at McPhee's request. Howson might be undecided as to if he'd rather have Jurcina or Mo.

I don't really see anyone on the Columbus roster that they'd move who'd fit anywhere on the Caps, so I'd guess it would be for futures.

Nah.

He has a $3.75 hit for another 3 years.

Not worth it.
