The one that gave Adam Berkhoel, Michael Garnett, Steve Shields, and Mike Dunham jobs in a single season.

Swiss cheese looks better than Lehtonen's back.

I believe Hnlicka placed the curse after losing his job to Pasi.

Exactly what I said when this was announced in the offseason and I got flamed by our resident medical professors

Kari's career is in serious jeopardy if he is having back problems this early, it doesn't matter what sport he's playing, and the fact that his recovery (to quote Waddell) 'is going very slowly' isn't a good sign at all.

That's not a curse, it's bad luck. Or as Alanis Morrissette says, Ironic.

Exactly! Any time a back gets cut on, it's because it's a last ditch, no other option kinda scenario. Cleaning a herniated disc isn't like cleaning out a knee or a shoulder. it involves altering the spinal cord and sometimes fusing bones together.

Personally, I'll be surprised if you see Kari in an NHL game ever again. I hate it for the kid, but between his back and groin, he's never been healthy for a full season. It's a shame that someone with so much potential can't stay healthy.

It goes back further than that. Making Damian Rhodes the first ever Thrasher and building the team around him was the start.

Kari did not miss a single game due to injury during the '06-'07 season. He played in 68 games that year. Just wanted to clear that up.

No. It will be awhile. He had a set back and is no longer skating.

Nope, because in my mind Pavelec is the new starter and after this year Kari is outta here.

Agreed. For better or worse the Thrashers are going to hitch their wagon to the Pavelec bus, for this year at least.

The surgery was in late July, not September.

Kari needs to wake up, he's not a guy who should maybe take the spot, he should be a hero who runs that show.

He just needs to get use to playing behind a strong team, same thing happened with fleury

If Ondrej the Giant continues playing as well as he has been, I don't think the Thrashers management can do anything with Kari if and when he comes back besides trade him. He's got to have *some* value to a team like Detroit or maybe Chicago who want a cheap, high-risk/high-reward player. That Lehtonen is an RFA at the end of the season increases his value; if he goes to Detroit, and fails, then they just don't resign him. Easy to cut your losses there; it's not like he's on some DiPietro-style contract.

Lehtonen has plenty of talent. But he's the goalie version of Erik Christensen. I just don't think he has the mental makeup to be a bonafide no.1 NHL goaltender. And the pressure doesn't get any less than playing in Atlanta. For now, I'm completely content with letting Ondrej run the show. He's proving himself capable of stealing games when his team needs it.

Most goalies struggle with confidence issues- how did Pavelec respond the other night after he let the 100 foot bouncer in? Kari is an all-star goalie with a glass body, simple as that. I've seen him keep us in so many games in his short stint here- if he could stay healthy and finish developing he'd really be something special. If anything Kari is the goalie version of Martin Havlat

OK, point taken. Kari is made of glass, and thus more closely analogous to Havlat.

I still question his overall desire. If he had more of it, he'd devote himself to conditioning.

Agree totally. Anyone who's played with tenders from minor leagues or high level college programs knows how much time they put into their overall goalie shape. I sincerely think since the invention of the butterfly, goalies MUST do more conditioning work than any other position.

Again, contitioning used to be his problem. No so anymore. He worked quite hard conditioning wise for the past few summers.

This is a back issue and is not related to conditioning. I would be worry if it is because of his groins which seems not to be the problem anymore.

I`ve liked kari very much for a long time, and of course, i still do, but still i don`t think that he`ll help us this season. Still I think it would be an option picking him as our number 1 goalie. That would mean, that Pavelec would have to go back to chicago, because i think he wouldn`t want to be a backup for more than a handfull of games.
So here is my idea. Try to trade Pavelec to Chicago. They have had goaltending issues all year long, and they have to free up some cap space. That could give the thrashers another solid D-men or anything comparable.
It would obviously be a risk, because of karis health, but i personally like him to much to let him go
what do you think?
