They choose the Rangers 22nd in the preseason ranking and now #1.

Probably somewhere in the middle is where theyll end up.

God i hate power rankings.

The top 3 are all Atlantic. This is going to be by far the most ridiculous division battle the Atlantic has seen. Aside from the Islanders, every team could finish in any spot from 1-4, and each could contend for the cup.

Since the rankings are statistically-generated, the early-season rankings have much greater potential for fluctuation from one week to the next, with the first rankings of the season being comprised entirely of results for this season, so there is no longer a reflection of summer handicapping and roster evaluation that was in effect for the pre-season rankings.Notably, there are teams that weren't necessarily expected to excel, but are performing well early in the season. This group would be headlined by the New York Rangers.
For those of you who do not understand Power Rankings

EPSN has us at # 5

Week 1: Ranking 22 "There is something not quite right with the Rangers. Marian Gaborik will have to prove us wrong."

Week 2: Ranking 12 "Eat your heart out Minnesota Wild fans: Marian Gaborik has two goals in two games.

Week 3: Ranking 5 "Big wins over Washington and Anaheim give the Rangers four straight wins. Nice starts for rookie defensemen Matt Gilroy and Michael Del Zotto. Marian Gaborik's clicking, too, with points in every game. Sean Avery's return is a welcome addition."

The Coyotes just shut out Pittsburgh and San Jose on the road. They aren't going to score a lot of goals but they aren't going to give up many either.

Cullen: Rangers Top Nhl Power Rankings

I know it's early.. but

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=294735

"This group would be headlined by the New York Rangers, who vaulted to the number one spot, thanks to a star winger that is playing like a star and a rapidly improving group of young defencemen."

Good assessment.. LGR!

CBS has us at #2

Quote:
The numbers explain much about the league's hottest team. New York has outscored teams 15-8 at even-strength, 9-4 on the specialty teams and 12-4 in the third period.

THN realized they may have made a mistake in predicting the Rangers to finish 13th in the conference:

Quote:
NEW YORK RANGERS
THN Prediction: 13th in Eastern Conference
I spoke to Mark Messier a couple weeks back and ‘The Moose’ had this to say of our 13th-place pick: “I would find it hard to pick a team with a goalie like (Henrik) Lundqvist 12th or 13th.”

It’s a damn good point.

The super-Swede netminder, thrice a finalist for the Vezina, has been excellent this season, posting a 2.34 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in six outings. But it hasn’t been ‘Hank’ alone propelling the Blueshirts to a 6-1-0 start; Marian Gaborik is putting up MVP numbers, Chris Drury and Wade Redden look reborn, and youngsters Artem Anisimov, Matt Gilroy and Michael Del Zotto have injected some much-needed enthusiasm into the Blueshirts lineup.

On second thought: A strong division will make the row tough to hoe, but as long as Gaborik avoids a mid-body meltdown, the Broadway Boys will easily make the playoffs.

Rankings are accurate if you break it into thirds, the top 10, mid 10 and bottom 10 teams are usually correct. But then again a 9 year old kid could tell you which teams are good and which suck.
