TSN Power Ranking

http://tsn.ca/fantasy_news/feature/?ID=548

We are ranked #5.

Thought we could use a thread to chart the way TSN sees our team. Remembering last year when we were 5th in the west and they were giving us no respect, well they were right then, maybe their right now?

I just love how Detroit is in the bottom 15 and their getting spanked by Buffalo tonight 5-1 after 2.

What a joke. From thirtieth to fifth after five games. Oh man.

you mean actually playing games affects rankings? 5th is a little much though... even if they are stat driven (go bryz!).

sportsnet has us at #23.

Somewhere in between is about right. We're playing well. Very impressive start and remarkable improvement defensively from last year. Love the team first game. It's not pretty but it's effective.

I try to not pay much attention to power rankings! Rankings are better suited for college and high school level sports

I see your point, but we're six percent of the way through the season.

I love this board. I post alot on the Joe rogan board and there is a great hockey thread there. It can be brutal at times, but if yer bored. I could use some Coyotes support. I think is the best on the net. Oh we should be 15-12 because of our lack of scoring. D has been amazing.

5 is a little to high.
but we were able to be in all 5 games and whe played pens 5-1-0 buf 3-0-1 cbj 4-1-0 kings 4-1-0 and sharks 3-2-1 that´s combined 19-5-2 for combined 83:64 goals or 3,2:2,5
and we are 3-1 on the road and where able to shut the high scoring pens and sharks out. to me thats pretty impressive.
i want to point out that this sample is also a little small so its maybe too early to come out with such a power ranking at the 5-game-mark.
but i am very excited to watch how our game will develop the next 5 10 20 games.

The next 4 home games are going to tell us a lot about what kind of team we have.
Beating the Pens and Sharks was quite an accomplishment, but both teams might not have given us their A game. The didn't need to - they both know they'll make the playoffs, they're doing fine so far, and their eyes are on the cup. They don't have much to prove until playoff time.

The Bruins, Wings, Blues are struggling to find a rythm. I expect all 3 to come here and put a solid effort on the road. The Kings are kind of similar to us - young, unpredictable, hard working, but with more skill than we currently have.

If we manage to go 3-1 or 2-1-1 on this home stand, the TSN rankings won't look so sillly.

ESPN had us at 24th before the Sharks game but as we all know ESPN covering hockey is like Sportsnet covering the NBA. Their rankings make me laugh...St Louis drops from 4 to 23, Bruins drop from 9 to 21, Canadiens drop from 11 to 27, Tampa jumps from 29 to 16, Islanders jump from 30 to 25 after with a hot 0-0-3 start , and the Kings jump from 15 to 3. Like someone else said, power rankings in pro sports have about as much use as a winter coat in Phoenix but it's still funny to see the huge differences among media outlets.

Have to ask: what insane scheduling algorithm gave the Flyers only one game in 11 days?

[of course they get 4 games in 6 days to follow that up]

You should see how long the Canucks go on the road because of the olympics. Odd though.

That at least I can understand, just like Boston's annual three week roadtrip when the circus comes to town. Dunno on Philly.

The best answer I can come up with is the fact that the Phillies' and Eagles' seasons are both still going, and Bruce Springsteen will be in Philadelphia all week. Although none of them are using the Wachovia Center, all three venues (Citizen's Bank Park, Lincoln Financial Field, and the Wachovia Spectrum) are in the same basic space (though the Wachovia Center has Disney On Ice all week). I'm not sure why they couldn't just play on the road, though.

In this same vain, Bryz is the #1 player in the league.

Still don't get why Sauer isn't listed as an "injury"

I think any combination of these things have kept Sauer off the key injuries list:
  • He's an underrated and unnoticed shut down defenseman.
  • Lepisto has done a great job in Sauer's absence, making Sauer seem unimportant
  • The team defense is good enough that Sauer's absence isn't noticed by non-Coyotes fans

Cup contenders?! They're not even playoff contenders yet! Or did I miss the sarcasm smiley or something?
