Wasn't Stralman issued number 5. Last night on the highlights, it looked like he was wearing number 6

I'm going to sign as big as I can so it looks like I REALLY REALLY care while all of you will look like jerks because you will have to sign really small.

It'll be interesting to see how the D pairings shake out. Losing Jan sucks, but Roy has played better than I think we expected & he can fill in until we get Commie back, which sounds like it's close. And then there's Clitsome.

Depth is a nice thing.

Well, if there was ever a time for Methot to stop being average, now is the time.

I think he has been playing better than Klesla or Tyutin.

Tyutin/Klesla a combined -7

That's fine.

It still would be a good time for Methot to show he is more than an average defense man. Don't really know how that relates to Tyutin and Klesla....

Although, I suppose the same could be said about Rusty.

But IS Methot more than an average defenseman? I like him, but I'm not sure that he is. That doesn't mean he can't elevate his play at some, uh, critical times, though.

And on a semi-related note, I think Klesla's knack for making great diving plays on the puck has gone to his head. He's turned it into a habit and has spent half the season thus far on his stomach. Not so sure that's a good thing.

I think I'd settle for an "average" NHL defenseman, right about now.

What you should have said:

But IS Methot more than a pylon? I don't like him and I'm not sure that he is. That doesn't mean he can't be a bigger pylon at some, uh, critical times, though.

And in the SJ game Tyutin and Klesla where a combined.... -7

To be fair, Tyutin's other -3 night came against Van. Having said that, Klesla's been fine. Methot's been fine. But's he's still not a 22/23 minute a night D-Man. Those extra 4-5 minutes a night makes a pretty big difference.

More offense than we have ever had. Should have had 4 goals last night.

The D will step up!!!
But how much of "Wicked PK" is due to Hejda? I think: much. This significantly weakens a strong point. Hejda is a load-bearing wall.

I was going to say linchpin, but this is exactly right. All the stats say that Hejda is the core of our defense. We're going to find out quite a bit about the rest of the team with him out.

Watching the highlights, you can see where the knee to knee hit came & Hejda have some difficulty, but he finished the play & went to the net. After the whistle blew, he even proceeded to jump in the pile & shove GlenX around a little bit, too.

Not so sure about the PK maintaining its level with him out myself.

Were we using Roy on the PK at all during the regular season?

Predicting a TB d-man will be dealt for by CBJ in excahnge for a forward, eg, Krajicek for Chimera.

This is a big loss, particularly with Commodore not even ready to skate much less play. I agree that Methot is not a great defensemen, but he has his moments and he does belong here. We just need everyone to step up and play better. And we need to match our more offensively skilled players like Russell and Straalman with a more physical pure defensive player. Hitch has a real challenge putting our pairings together.

Honesly, I thnk losing Hjeda one of the biggest losses we might have faced. But that happens and if we're good enough the Jackets will overcome this challenge.

I kind of doubt it - unless it takes much longer for Commie to come back than expected.

Groin injuries tend to linger. He's been out a while from it which is not good. He wont be in game shape for at least a month to a month and a half. Commie has never been the fleetest of foot, so you add injury shape to it, and he may be as far off as Hejda is...maybe not the 6 week side, but pretty long. I'd feel better for it to be a upper body injury then the groin.....injured groins and skating dont work well together

Agreed. It would smack of a quick fix and desperation, things that GMSH has not displayed since his arrival.
