Tarnstrom anyone? Glenx sure doesn't look terrible. No one expected huge things out of JW when we got him.

Having said that, I'm not sure how moving Chimmer would be an act of desperation. Unless you're Tampa.

Correct me if I am wrong but Roy played a fair amount with Hejda as his partner - Hejda always makes his partner look good...

And as much as I have a Hejda shrine in front of my television, I have seen Roy play. Unless something has changed, an adequate defenseman is my description...

On a side note, your eldest healthy defenseman is only 27 - not enough maturity to carry the team; Columbus has a wee bit of a challenge coming up.

The good news is (from the game I watched last night) is that they are playing smart "as a team"....

I could see that making sense, for multiple reasons. I think it's just important to clear our logjam of forwards as it is to have another healthy body back there.

I'm fine with that and think we can get through it as well.

But not much has changed among the forward ranks and we still have a logjam that Howson was trying to clear out all summer. I hate to potentially lose someone on waivers when Modin comes back. If we can get an asset for someone now, all the better.

Why couldn't have this happened to someone useless like Boll or Russell? Glencross is getting crossed off my Christmas card list.

When is Modin expected back?

I have seen no time dates. But worry not...no matter how bad he is hurt during the regular season he will show up for the playoffs some how.

I'm not sure of that but it won't matter anyway.

He will only be around for 3 games (if that) before he gets "reinjured."

Again.

The most recent reports are saying he won't start skating until next week at least. Another week or two after that would be my guess.

Hopefully we resign him.

He has such great locker room presence!

It does matter in the sense that we'd have to send someone to Syracuse as soon as he's activated. Blunden is the most likely candidate and he'd have to go through waivers.

Which is actually fine by me, he was a beast in a couple of the playoff games. Tell ya what, just take the regular season off so you can be healthy for a playoff run

Maybe like a little lioness. Not so much a beast.

If you look at it that way...I guess it does matter some.

Which would then be the logical timeline for potentially acquiring another blueliner based on the waivers risk reasoning you outlined earlier.

What a drag. This will test our depth. Roy will be asked to to step up his game.
Tyutin- Klesla
Methot-Stralman
Roy-Russel

I like Slash's lines, but I agree with these more... def Russell on the third pair, and Stralman won't play with Kris, so that puts him in the top four. Methot will def be one of our top four as well, pushing Roy down with Kris. But I feel our top four might shake up differently... With Methot moving up to the first pair... Like

Methot-Tyutin
Klesla-Stralman
Roy-Russel

If not, I like all three combinations for pairing up our top four. Everyone will have to step up, but this is a good top 6. With our system, consistent team play so far and the contingency in our lineup, I feel like Roy can step in and do a pretty good job in Hejda's absence. And once Commodore is back we can get an even better top 6, and have the option of sitting Kris or Roy.

For instance...
Klelsa-Tyutin
Methot-Commodore
Roy-Stralman

Verrry solid. and once Hejda and Commodore are back... .. a bit far off for that one, though.

Edit:
Then again, maybe Rusty will play top pair with Fedor. I guess we'll get some insight w/ tomorrows practice lineup

Ouch. That's not a playoff defense...

... good thing that it's only October...

... and that we've got a lot of confidence right now...

... and that our goaltending tandem has looked spectacular

The problem is Stralman (obviously) plays on the right side, and Klesla is our one left shooting defenseman comfortable/capable of playing well on the right side, so they pretty much need to stay split up. Those are some of the biggest factors as to why I like Slash's lines.
