Except, it's impossible for a goalie to cover every last inch of the net, and if you give a guy like Marian Gaborik time to look for an opening and pick his spot, that's what happens. It's more on the defenseman, he needs to take away the far side shot by being aggressive from the inside if there's no threat of a one timer. That way, that goalie just needs to seal up the short side.

It's similar to Kopitar's goal on the Sharks, except it was in closer and Gaborik has a harder shot.

As I write this Gaborik just cut into the slot untouched and almost picked the glove high corner again.
You come out and take the angle down, it is possible if you play correctly. Gaborik was the only player in the zone. You have to challenge him.

That goal was not Gaborik picking his spot. First, you can't say that since EE gave him half the net to shoot at, no spot was necessary to pick. Sure Doughty should have cut down the angle and forced Gaborik into a quicker decision/shot, but an NHL goalie has to stop that shot. If he doesn't, it's a weak goal.

The shot Gaborik just missed which you are referring to would not have been a weak goal. He was in the slot with a clear shooting lane.

Put Frolov on 1st unit. Brown to the 2nd in front of the net, and let Handzus handle the puck.

I've been entertained, other than the poor powerplay the Kings did well, how can you complain? Especially against a hot out of conference team with a top-5 goalie in the league?

I'd like changes to both units. Williams isn't cutting it at the point (at least not on our main, go-to unit). I'd actually like to see Purcell on the 1st in place of Brown, with Fro-Handzus-Brown on the 2nd. JJ and Doughty as your PP QBs. One of them out there at all times.

Pretty much as expected by the Kings.

Here's hoping they play better against the Wings tomorrow.

NYR defenseman step up on shooters, and deprive us of opportunities. We on the other hand, well, you watched it

Because they let Gaborik's goal deflate them. No one has had any zip the last 8 minutes.

That's unacceptable.

Geez Johnson is a solo'ing fool. Just keep the goalie pulled permanently and JMFJ out there all the time.

On the bright side, Jack has been our best defenseman again.

I think our D's failure to control the point better lost this game.

That and Ersberg. 60/40.

Well that game won the game for the Rangers. A good team was beaten by another good team.

And I still think that Gaborik goal was off-sides. He was over the line before the puck came over the line.

Kings lose, but it was still a solid effort, and they didn't stop coming.
