Mikko Koivu

Hi guys, I was wondering how Koivu was playing that far. His stats are surely far from what they were last year at the same moment, but they are not necessarely representative of his game. So here are my questions:

Is he playing bad hockey?

His he having problems with his linemates?

How do you explain de slow start of the Wild at this point? Only 12 goals after 5 games.

Thanks!

The Wild as a team are just consistently inconsistent. There are times they are creating chances all over...then they go through a 2 minute period where it looks like they are a minor league team, not skating, throwing pucks to the middle of the ice, not picking up guys, etc.

Since they have had such a slow start, I think Koivu and everyone is lacking confidence. Call it gripping their sticks too tight or whatever you want but the chances are slim and it appears that the opposing teams' goalie has made the save when called upon.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Koivu and the team continue this slump for awhile; the injuries are piling up, the system has been changed 180 degrees and the lack of young talent or overall depth is apparent.

As he played a bit with Miettinen thus far? I know they were separated at the end of last season, but they seemed to by a nice duo at the beginning of last season.

Yes, he started the season with Havlat and now Miettienen has replaced hime is on his line. The two looked good last night .... Nice goal in the 2nd when Mikko stole the puck in the neutral zone, turned up the ice with a quick give-and-go and then made a nice drop pass to Miettinen who one-timed it past Lundquist.

Well...first off, congrats to the Minnesota Wild for winning the season series.

Secondly, if Koivu is not among the finalists for the Selke Trophy come season's end, I'll be shocked beyond belief.

He won't be, he had to fight back from a -10 early in the season, and he doesn't kill as many penalties as he used to.

He may be a finalist but he won't win it unless they go to the playoffs sadly. Its like any other MVP style award in any major sport...you really won't be considered unless you at least get to the next level. I'd put a lot of $$ on Richards probably sneaking away with it this year....
