Lidström reaches 1,000 points!

That surely deserves it's own thread!

First european-born defenseman to go 1,000. Only 28 points up to Brian Leetch now. Can he catch up to Denis Potvin this season too?

Congratz! Nicklas Lidström! Our captain of defense!

it feels good to see lidström with an umlaut. something is always wrong with a simple o.

well done lidas!

next 1000 following. a machine can't get older, every problem will be fixed.

as a colorado fan i never wished ill of any of the red wings players in terms of injury, but i always hoped lidstrom had the flu when you played us.

it has been an honor to watch him play. i have nothing but respect for him, and though it always hurt seeing him against my beloved forsberg, it was a joy to see him play with foppa on olympic ice.

my hat is also off to lidstrom for showing time and again you could be the top defenseman in the league without using elbows and dirty shots behind the refs back.

congrats to lidstrom and to the detroit fans for having one of their own reach a great achievement

I'd love to umlaut him, but my keyboard conspires against me.

What an achievement. I was watching the game with my family, and we all got and when I asked why he couldn't just keep playing forever....

OK, Lidstrom is awesome on and off the ice. But just to prove he is human, I am going to say something negative, but true, about him right here.

Ummmm....

Let me think....

Hmmmm...

Oh, yeah! His kid's hockey team once beat my kid's hockey team. *******!

Can't be worse than the dreaded "Lindstrom," which Yahoo initially had on their website and Windsor Star in their headline. How the hell does that still happen?

He's one of the top 2-3 athletes for me among all sports so I couldn't be happier for him.

As you know he´s anglosaxon version is Lidstrom, as all ströms in the world become in NA. So Lidstrom is correct, while he play in the NHL.

Of course the NHL could also try to reflect to actual pronouncing like calling Lidström for Lidstroem or Lidstreum, which would make the north-americans pronounce his name better. But it doesn't matter.

But for me as a Swede it's silly not to use "ö".

I know, just trying to tell the difference by using wrong on purpose Lindstrom with right on purpose Lidström. But of course in NA, Lidstrom is most used.

I meant that seeing "Lidstrom" (no umlaut) all the time can't be worse than seeing "Lindstrom," seemingly all the time as well. Looking back at my post I should've only bolded the second sentence, sorry for the confusion.

I think Holmström's case is worse than Lidströms. Holmström should be pronaunced Haulmstroem not Hoooolm-stroom .

Then we'd have to call him Halmer. Or Hammer.

And, lets face it, Homer just works better.

Congrats to Lidstrom.

1,000 points for a D man is nothing to scoff at nowadays.

50 pts is an excellent season for a d man now and imagine doing that for 20 years!

After Nik there really isn't any other D-man on the horizon who can get to 1,000.

Chelios is at 948 but he is done. Blake is only at 750.
I can see any young guys coming up who can do it either.
