The Kariya Goal: Who's to Blame?

Maybe this is a throw-away thread, but with that goofy goal last night it felt like this could be a topic in itself.

Who do you think was responsible for the goal against?

My pick would be Bryz. Sure Yandle coughed up the puck on a sloppy play, but the goalie should always be aware of offensive pressure like that and he clearly wasn't playing attention. It's a good reminder or wake up call for him though, and it might extend his excellent play while he thinks about that goal.

Close second to RT

How about giving Kariya some credit for making one heck of a play. He saw an opprotunity & jumped on it. His quickness was amazing, even if he was still in his early 20's. Don't get me wrong, I was furious when it happened. If the situation/role was reversed how many of the Yotes would have made that same play? Honestly outside of Doan & Lang, I'm struggling to mention any with confidence. Kariya still has that killer goal scoring instinct in him & it was evident in during that play.

How about blaming both Bryz and Yandle equally. Both had major lapses and both were equally at fault IMO.

This.

I voted for Bryz, but I would suggest 51% blame on Bryz, and 49% on Yandle.

Here's a good flame-worthy comment...

Maybe Bryzgalov was counting the empty seats, or easier yet, counting the seats that were taken.

Good play by him, but that goal should have never went in. I was going to vote RT being drunk, but then I realized that it's not your fault because you're drunk even when we win.

I voted Bryz. Goalies are taught to watch their dmen behind the net all the time. He clearly looked down. I don't understand what was so exciting about the crease.

I believe I was sober for both the Penguins and Sabres games. I think San Jose, too. So we're 2-1 when I'm sober and 2-1 when I'm drunk. I'd like to continue to calculate this throughout the season, but I'm afraid I'd be too terribly depressed by the end of the season.

I think we need to band together and keep this man intoxicated! That's what I call pack mentality.

His quickness was pretty impressive. Yandle never saw him and he really did dart in out of nowhere. Yandle and Bryzgalov both need to be alert and on guard in that situation, but Kariya really made them pay with his quickness.

I don't think Doan or Lang can make that play. They aren't quick enough to swoop in like that and go unnoticed until it is entirely too late. If someone like Doan or Lang tried to make that play Yandle and Bryz might have had a chance to react. Lombardi could make that play much like he made that play last night to cut across the net in traffic so fast. Maybe Upshall or Boedker, but maybe not..

There was no 4th option; to blame Jim Balsillie.

RT and it isn't even close. :-p

Both Yandle (for not paying attention) and Bryz (for napping) are to blame.

I guess I have to vote for myself to even this puppy up. It's time I'm a man and take responsibility for this.

I blame Jerry Moyes for slipping something insides Yandle's water bottle! LOL

Kariya would be perfect on a line with Lombardi and Upshall.
I wonder what it would take to get him?

No that would require him to know who Keith Yandle is and for him to show up at the arena.

The Blues falling out of the playoff race extremely early. Not likely to happen. Plus, he'll make six million dollars this season, the final year of his contract, and just turned thirty five today. I'm not sure I'd want to give what it would take to get him, anyhow.

Scratch that! I didn't think Paul's salary was that high. Maybe I'm the one that needs something slipped in my drink so I can make sense.

Goalies do that all the time. Just one of those things. Like when a team pulls the goalie and they put it in thier own net.

He just hired a bunch of people that don't know anything about hockey to run things for him again.

In this case he told Jeff Shumway "Invest in something to help our trucks handle". But what Shumway heard was "Invent something that will f * c k with Yandle" and there you go.

I have heard rumors that Rodier and Moyes are conspiring to file bankrupcty to have the goal disallowed.

It's going to take quite a bit of time to get the stench of Jerry Moyes out of that building. I smelt it last night, a combination of motor oil, Steel Reserve and desperation.

I can see the motor oil and the desperation but Moyes religion would (in theory anyway) preclude the Steel Reserve.
