Amazing pickup by the Hawks. Once again their management establishes itself as the most competent in the business. Picking up a feisty, near PPG player making league minimum for nothing? Work of genius my friends, work of genius.

P. S. Someone should remind Brian Burke there's no pick for him to tank for and no need to avoid players that would improve his club.

Any team could pick up a player off waivers or is there a waiting list? Worst ranked teams to the best ranked teams or in order by alphabet A-Z Z-A?
Until November 1st it's based on last seasons standings. Everyone who wants him puts in a claim. The team who put in a claim that is lowest in the standings gets him.

So we know that a lot of teams passed on him due to where Chicago finished in the standings last season.

Panthers don't need him. He'd most likely stink it up here as there are no stars to feed the puck to. Also we got more than enough forwards

WTF??? We just put in the claim just for the fun of it (and coz we want to prevent detroit claiming him and make him a good player) and we got him ?`??

What the **** are we going to do with him now ?

****ing Burke, he does not only ruin his team, he ruins ours too, someone must remind we play different confrence.....

Everything above is said with little fun in mind and nothing too serious..

What does Burke have to do with waiving and losing Ebbett?

AFAIK Toronto is higher in waiwer list than Chicago. (and we trusted he will claim ebbett so we dont have to, as said we just put in the claim so detroit wont get the guy )

Andrew Ebbett isn't going to bring anything to the table that Leafs don't already have. Frankly, he's a good young player with a cheap salary, but he's also an RFA at the of the year (I think) and the Leafs are stacked at center as is.

Either way, I still am somewhat surprised that Burke didn't go after him. Obviously he knows something about him that we don't.

Fresh air ? more competition ?

Leaf´s in my opinion certainly need to start "forcing it" to get it done.

I dont understand why people like Ebbett to much.

I am not a fan. He is an average NHL player who I dont see as much use to us

I dont understand the pickup! I would rather see Brophey, Dowell or Bickell get a look if we need help because of injury

I personally liked Ebbett in the Anaheim games I saw in the regular season and during their playoff run last year. I expect him to fit in well in Chicago, but he may just be a short term fill-in option for them.

Yes if Bowman doesnt fix our goalie situation.

You know why we play him over anyone else ....?

His cap hit is the lowest of all Hawks.....

he'll probably take skille's place on the team, it just costs too much to have skille up on the big team.

Skille finally starts to look good in NHL and now he is screwed back to AHL

Being right up against the cap is bad for young players. In 2007-08, the Sabres sent our waiver-exempt, two-way contract players down to Rochester in between games. They wouldn't even be able to practice with the team, and it was hard on some of them. At least when the playoffs come, though, you'll be able to field your best lineup.

So they did this with multiple players? Interesting. Seems like there is a point when this is just cheap rather than prudent, although I guess once you're on a long road trip it is impossible to keep doing. I don't think I'd do this with more than 2-3 guys at once, and maybe rotate who goes down if you had a lot of eligible guys at once.

Great pick-up by the Hawks.

I wonder if it'll be him going back on waivers when everyone is healthy or if someone else will go on waivers if Ebbett plays lights out for the time he's with the Hawks.

Send a message via ICQ to DisgruntledHawkFan
if Ebbett plays lights out it'd still be hard to keep him as anything other then a depth forward. Just too many forwards on our team.

Ebbett cant create much by himself.. he needs good line mates and in terms of skll is is avg i suppose, decent speed with ok hands i guess.. small and wont win many battles.. therefore the ducks had no use for him.. i'm not quite sure what you hawks will want with im when your injured player return
