If Tarasenko or Kabanov fell to us it'd be like moving up into the top 10 for nothing, you'd have to at least consider those two.

As of now, I'm kind of hoping McFarland falls, although Bjugstad looks interesting, too.

i wouldnt hesitate at all to draft a top russian player. its not like we play in nashville or atlanta. if kabanov or tarasenko fall to us u have to pick them imo.

Definitely a consideration.

However, if Kabanov drops to the teens (like in that mock) I try hard to move up.

Are there any forwards with good size like a Kreider last season? Possibly a playmaker?

El Nino is listed at 6-1, 205 and has talent out the wazoo.

And will be gone unless we are picking at #12 or higher.

His teammates are pretty damn good too:

The top prospects game is on tonight on SportsNet in Canada, and NHL Network in the US @ 7PM EST. It's a really cool opportunity to see a lot of up and coming talent.

Rosters:
Quote:
TEAM ORR:
Ryan Martindale-Alexander Burmistrov-Joey Hishon
Quinton Howden-Jeff Skinner-Nino Niederreiter
Michael Bournival-Steven Shipley-Petr Straka
John McFarland-Tyler Seguin-Tyler Toffoli

Brandon Gormley-Dylan McIlrath
Jerome Leduc-Matt MacKenzie
Mark Pysyk-Stephen Silas

Mark Visentin
Louis Domingue

TEAM CHERRY:
Brad Ross-Louis-Marc Aubry-Andrew Yogan
Taylor Hall-Ryan Spooner-Austin Watson
Devante Smith-Pelley-Jordan Weal-Jakub Culek
Stanislav Galiev-Ryan Johansen-Emerson Etem

Brock Beukeboom-Brandon Archibald
Austin Madaisky-Troy Rutkowski
Cam Fowler-Alexander Petrovich

Calvin Pickard
Maxime Clermont
The guys in red are in the current ISS top-30. I may have missed one or two.

The celebrity coaches are Don Cherry and Bobby Orr. There's a good HF article on the skills competition that was held last night:

Big kid, 6'3 almost 200lbs, and he doesnt turn 18 until July 31st. PPG player, even when El Nino was away at the WJC's. Slick playmaker, plays both ends, drops the gloves when needed. Pre ranked #9 in the WHL by CSB before the season, has shot up to #16 in NA. Intriguing player with size and skill.

Sold! Wrap it up and put it in the truck.

He caught my eye among the stat sheets, but I haven't seen him at all. Sounds like he could be a solid selection in the 18-22 range, which seems to be "our spot" as of late.

Any word on a potential weakness or two that would result in the "low" ranking? Not a great skater, perhaps?

Sounds like the type of player the Rangers should look heavily at.

Port Moody’s Ryan Johansen is a budding 17-year-old hockey player who’s growing fast, as is the interest he’s drawing from several National Hockey League teams.

“Want me to name them?” Johansen asks excitedly, bubbling in anticipation of next summer’s NHL draft, for which the skilled, lanky centre has already been pegged as a possible first-round choice. “Montreal, Colorado, Los Angeles, New York Islanders, New York Rangers, Anaheim, Pittsburgh and Atlanta.”

Ryan Johansen – Played as a 16 year old in the BCHL last year and has become a top six forward for the Hawks this year. He is very good along the boards, controlling the puck and creating opportunities with deft passing skills, especially from behind the net. Above average skater who carries the puck well on the rush. One of the top faceoff men on the Hawks and gets both power play and penalty kill time.
