The only thing I can think of is that both Tanguay and Downie have always played in those exclusive spots (RW and LW respectively).

Malone-Lecavalier-St. Louis
Tanguay-Stamkos-Downie
?

For the first time ever I agree with gob. I do like Downie and Stamkos though, they had some success last year.

I don't know what they are expecting, but I don't think Halpern and Miller are going to help Tanguay find his offensive game and start putting up points. I guess we'll see

I like it. St.louis is the key here, everywhere that little man goes not only does he produces but everyone on his line does. Putting him with Vinny can jumpstart him and Stamkos seems to be on fire right now, him and Malone have been hooking up really well and Downie showed some chemistry last year with Stammers....mise well give it a shot, we need all the help we can get.

Tocchet on Tanguay: "He's out of whack. he knows it. He's losing positioning in defensive zone coverage. I know Tangs. He gets like that every once in a while. Hopefully, playing with Halpy and Miller, he can be a straight-line guy with those guys."
also on the DC blog. sounds like he's putting vinny and tanguay in situations that limit their ability to get too cute instead of just taking the shot\going to net. feels like a pretty short-term shakeup to help them both deal with this "east-west" fixation that tocchet feels is the core of their problems.

this stretch of 2 weeks with just 4 games will be good for the team. plenty of time to practice team concepts in between games and just enough opportunities to apply those lessons. i think it sets us up nicely to expect noticeable improvements going into november

Something was definitely needed, but Wright and Tanguay need to be switched. I hope Downie can get production up there. He has been fantastic on the 4th line. I just don't see him as a finisher yet.

He'll never be a true finisher. Hes got an NHL ready shot, but hes always been more of a puck control guy who is also an exceptional passer.

I like the changes, they are meant to shake up Lecavalier and Tanguay, and that is exactly what they are going to do. Wright is getting rewarded for his strong play, but knows he isn't going to stick there. Tanguay has some pressure taken off of him, and Lecavalier gets to go back to what works.

I assume we're keeping the same defensive pairings?

Completely agree. It's a hope that all those blind passes Vinny feels so obliged to make will at least go to Marty and not the other team. We should really be encouraging him to not make those plays; however that most likely comes after he finds the back of the net more than once.

Who knows to be honest. Hell with Marty and vinnies chemistry they could get me to pot a 70 point season on there line.....Wright kills me in talent so.....

The only problem that I see with pairing Vinny and Marty again is that every coach in the league knows how to defend against them. They were great for 1 year and then the next weren't nearly as effective. Partly due to knowing how to defend against them and partly because they would do the same stupid, over-passing and drop passing ********. If this time they go out and don't try to play based on the script from 2006-07 they may just be effective again. If they try to play like it's 2006-07 again, they'll probably be no better than leaving Marty with Stamkos and Tanguay with Vinny.

I would agree with you but the two of them playing together gives Vinny a mental boost, not a physical boost. He just knows he's playing with MSL and poof, takes it up a notch.
