No wonder you're disgruntled.

They're not really rivals, considering one is in the basement, and the other is most likely going to win the west.

Therefore, a trade would make sense between the teams.

I don't get this love affair with Biron. He's another version of Huet. The Hawks not only need someone that can help them make a run but also someone long term. A young goalie such as Harding and even Halak. Biron is 32. Harding is 25 and Halak is 24. Since it seems like they're never going to develop from within, they need to get one of those guys on a cheap deal for a few years. No trade deadline stuff. I say over the next 5-10 games. If Huet has even 2 more games like he did against Dallas he's as good as gone. Minny is desperate for scoring and Montreal could use some help to.

Well Biron is our best option to win now. Harding and Halak are good young goalies but I would argue they still are a bit unproven.

And Biron is not like Huet. When Biron has an off night he is average, When Huet plays he is awful (Just look at his games this year)

Biron still seems like just a band-aid on a flesh wound though. It's too bad that there's no Patrick Roy calibre (excluding Brodeur) goalie in the East that will have an extremely messy break up with his team and demand a trade to a contending Western team such as us. If the Nords never move to Colorado there's no way they win 2 cups. Montreal would never trade Roy to their provincial/divisional rival. Best goalie we could get that's proven would be Vokoun out of Florida and he's still never actually won a round in the playoffs. Other than that we are looking at the Birons', Halaks and Hardings of the world.

i can't imagine biron is a solution for the hawks. they are right back with a problem next year. an older, overpaid avg goalie. i think it's halak or harding - but more likely halak as the hawks won't necessarily want to deal with a western opponent.

they get halak at 23 and solid and at a good cap hit for the next few years (800k this year i believe)

Surely the ducks are the best fit...

to Anahaiem:

Huet + 1st + ??

to Chcago

Giguere + prospect

I know both teams are tight against the cap, so parts could be added to make sure the cap balances...but something along those lines?

Yeah, but by the time he stops earning that figure, the cap crunch days will be over. Another boom cycle in the economy will be in full gear.

Especially since when Hossa comes back, Ladd is basically the Hawks' 6th winger.
I'd do Harding + 3rd for Ladd if he'd sign a reasonable extension(around 3M per, at least 3 years).

Well if DiPietro gets healthy you could maybe get Biron, but that wouldn't happen right now. Biron isn't great but he isn't bad by any means either, unless he's trying to handle the puck with his stick.

Huet + Beech/Aliu + 2nd is a deal I'd be all over. Giggy is one of the goalies potentially available I'd be all for bringing in.

Well, this is an interesting point. Giggy is only a few hundred thousand more than Huet, so it wouldn't really make signing everyone tougher than it already is. However, he is signed through 10-11, so it also wouldn't improve the cap crunch at all either- I feel like unfortunately, a goalie signed through 2010-11 would be the worst possible contract length for the Hawks. Preferably there would be a goalie on a deal expiring after this season, or a younger goalie who the Hawks can sign to a cheaper deal for 3-4 years and open up a bit of cap room next year. Certainly you'd like to improve the goaltender who takes up 5-6MM in cap space, and I think Giguere would do that to some degree, but I think ideally the Hawks would have no more than about 3MM invested in a starting goaltender beginning in 2010-11, to limit the casualties of the cap crunch. I think onlly the elite goalies are really worth 5MM+/yr, and otherwise you'd be better off spending that money on skaters and getting the best cheap goaltending available. Should always be a few decent guys wanting to play behind one of the most talented groups of skaters in the league, especially given what seems to be a recent wave of goaltending talent.

the habs cant do that given markov is up for an extension in 2 years, price after this one + others.. not worth it for the team to add campbell. it fits right now with markov out but longer term beyond the next 4 months it doesnt at all.

To Chicago:
M. Biron
M. Streit (cheaper, efficient PMD to replace Campbell and give them cap relief)
4th Rounder

To NYI:
B. Campbell (they have the cap room)
1st Rounder (basically a thank you for taking Campbell's contract)

Isles need way more if Chicago is dumping Campbells contract on them and taking Streit.
