Mtl - Tor

montreal

Halak + D'agostini + 3rd round pick '11

for

toronto

Stajan + MacDonald

Gionta Gomez Cammalleri
Plekanec Stajan A.Kostitsyn
Latendresse Lapierre Pacioretty
Moen Chipchura Laraque

ex. Stewart, Metropolit will be in lineup when he returns.

Price
Sanford/MacDonald

Blake Grabovski Hagman
Poni Mitchell Stralberg
Stempniak Kulemin D'agostini
Orr Wallin Rosehill

ex. Primeau, Mayers, Kessel will be on first line when he returns.

Toskala/Halak/ Gustavsson - goaltening up in the air too be honest. Halak really is the only one out of the three that has proven he can be a start and is consistent. Toskala has gone down hill. Last year when they shut him down to get surgey on his hip I believe that was the reason he was playing bad and was suppose to come back to elite form. Nothing even close. Gustavsson has come in for bad games that Toskala has played not his fault. He has shown that he is a young capable goalie coming over to north america and can possibly take over the #1 role. He is injured now. Same with Toskala they did practice today too.

But I think Halak and Toskala until Gustavsson comes back then go game by game and I believe Halak would prevail over the other too. I know Toronto can face alot of shots and can out shoot their opponents. But Halak last year and this year so far have faced 40+ games and only allows 1 or 2 goals with an odd 3 goal game sometimes.

He would I believe solve Toronto's woe's in net. My opinion but many leaf fans will knock him because he is a Hab.

Toskala is not who he was when they first got him when he looked to be an allstar goalie. He is falling apart injuries are starting to get him. Toskala will not be back next year.

Halak is an RFA Toronto can either go with Gustavsson and Halak after the season or let him go and get a goalie out of the free agency pool.

Montréal could get more for that package they are offering.

I was thinking about adding Mitchell to the deal but I thought it would go lopsided. Who else do you think Montreal ask for to make fair.

We all know Stajan is worth at least a 1st round pick.

Why not just work a deal around Halak? D'Agostini just complicates things.

white is way to valuable to the leafs right now but I'd do Stajan for Halak. I'd be fine running Halak and Gustavson for the year and send down Toskala

Nice zinger, sport. How incredibly inventive. A comedic genius akin to Jim Belushi, no doubt. Bravo.

As to the opening post, I'd rather hang onto Stajan at the moment.

I do like Halak, though. But I'd like to give Gustavsson a fair shake before we start searching elsewhere.

If your intent was to convey sarcasm, you picked the wrong Belushi.

Why do ALL of your proposals include Halak and D'Agostini?

I would deal Halak straight up for Stajan, But Sanford would be our backup goalie through the rest of the year. Halak is like a solid backup you know can hold the fort when needed.

As a Leafs fan I like Stajan for Halak straight up, but since he's a UFA I doubt Hab fans would. I'd be willing to do somehing like:

Halak + pick

for Stajan + Stefanovich

How about that?

That seems like a fair deal. My only worry is how our middle will fair after that. Even with Stajan (who probably is our best center; whether he's playing like it now or not), it's one of our biggest weeknesses. The only hope would be that Bozak can step in and produce.

Don't know how you can rank that "some pick" below Stefanovich. I'd gladly take Stajan+2nd.

Well Stajan is a UFA at year's end which hurt's his value, and I left the position of the pick vague because I'm not exactly sure where it would have to be for it to be fair and for both sides to be happy. I don't think you can really say Stef is better than the pick because we need all the picks we can get. And Stef does have big upside but he didn't even make the Marlies this year, he's currently back with Quebec as an overager, and I think we really need to shore up our goaltending at the moment.

Yeah the deal is assuming Bozak can step into the second line role, but I think he's more than capable of taking over for Stajan IMO.

The Leafs' need to shore up their goaltending situation, amongst other things, and Halak (from what I've seen of him) could become that stabilizing factor. Assuming that his cap-hit is relatively low (between 1-2 M?), swapping him for Stajan looks to be a fairly decent proposal.

Even if Halak's cap-hit is a little higher, the Leafs could manage it once Van Ryn gets placed on LTIR and have some room for more moves.

Stajan is worth alot more than a back up goalie. Nice try though.

A UFA Stajan is NOT worth a lot more than a very good young backup goalie.

Halak may be the #2 in Montreal, but he's largely in Price's shadow and has the potential to be a lower range starter - very good 1B.

why would the Leafs need/want another 2nd tier goalie ...maybe they have learned a lesson with the last 2 goalie deals they have made??
