The boarding call on Volchenkov tonight was pretty dicey, I thought. As was the tripping call some Leaf took towards the end of the 1st (I forget who). Oh well, at least it evens out.

Sopel barely pushed Simon, Simon was gliding slowly across the crease and made no effort to stop. I've never ice skated before, and I could have got out of Cloutier's way. He could have just as easily skated in front of Cloutier. He latched onto Cloutier's stick and pulled him with that.

That might be true, but that call was marginal and could have went either way the jovo goaltender interfernce was just a blatant hit.

As kmad said...Sopel barely touched Simon.

I would call it a nudge rather than a shove.

a 'nudge'? Please, when is the last time a crease-clearing defenseman 'nudged' a forward camped in front of the net? Sopel was trying to clear Simon out of the crease and ended up clearing him right into Cloutier. I saw the replay a few times and IMO if Simon hadn't been shoved, he wouldn't have touched Cloutier.

If the ref decided that Simon didn't do enough to avoid Cloutier, they could've called interference, but it was not an obvious call either way. Jovo, on the other hand, with no Flame skater even close to him, tossed Kipprusoff out of the crease.

Two that stand out in my mind:

Gauthier viciously crosschecking Jovanovski five feet into the boards.

Jovanovski blatantly bowling over Kiprusoff.

There should have been a boarding and an interference call, respectively.

Sopel is by no means a crease-clearing defenceman.

Hey, remember just a little while ago, Sopel was by no means a DEFENSEMAN?
