To Toronto : Christobal Huet + Jack Skille + 2nd
To Chicago : Vesa Toskala

Toskala and Huet are pretty much the same, Toskala will be a UFA and the Hawks can try and nab one of the better goalies on the market this offseason.

Huet is signed longer, and is more expensive, adding Skille could help the Leafs roster and the 2nd, those will be a high 2nd, adds to what the Leafs need in draft picks.

I don't see why the Leafs would not be all over this trade. Sure they have to live with Huet, but that is a good return on a crappy UFA goalie.

Solid trade.

Chicago has a lot more cap flexibility next season, and they poetntially get an upgrade in net.

Why do Toronto fans say no? You're taking a salary dump for a skilled young forward and a second round pick... Who cares? Waive Huet after the season.. Toronto can afford to bury Huet if necessary. Skille is a great player with top 6 potential.

In a heartbeat. Huet can't be any worse. Plus we get a second. And I have been hoping that the Leafs would get someone like Skille from the Hawks. Would love this trade.

please do it BB.

we all know MLSE is too happy bathing in their profits to okay wasting 5.6M a year on an AHLer, so Huet would be Gustavsson's backup.

Huet is the only goalie in the league better than Toskala right now. The skill is there for both goalies but they are both sucking hard for whatever reason right now. A change of scenery makes a lot of sense for both players.

Chicago throws in a former top 10 pick and 2nd to even out salaries. Get it done Bowman!!

That 5.6 million contract is untradeable unless you give us back one of your more skilled forwards, like Versteeg, Bolland or Sharp.

The 4 million we save on Toskala next season can help us attract a major free agent. We've got over 15 million to spend next year, I believe.

I'm not touching that contract. I'll take a heavy contract for a legit top 6 foward, like a Briere even though he makes over 6.5, but Huet is not we need.

While getting rid of Huet would be nice, Toskala is not an upgrade.

Actually, MLSE gave Burke total control on what he does with players and how he spends money. An example would be the Tampa trade last year of pretty much money and a place in the minors and IR for a draft pick. He may be the only GM in the NHL allowed to stick that money in the minors.

I think I'd do this trade. Should Huet turn his game around, that would be a landslide trade with Skille and a high pick coming back.

If Toronto hadn't invested so much money on Komisarek, Beauchemin, and Kessel, they would probably have the cap space to absorb a contract like Huet's. They are a team that is going to continue to spend to the cap and add players to keep the fan base happy, and a contract like Huet's would severely hamper their ability to spend over the next two offseasons. This would make a LOT of sense for Chicago, but I don't see Toronto doing it.

I would do this trade in a heartbeat from the Leafs' POV.

It means we get Skille and a 2nd back for the 1st+2nd+4th we gave up for Toskala. Bury Huet. If he performs well that's just gravy.

That's a whole lot of money over a long period of time to eat. I guess I have trouble comprehending burying a player with that big of contract in the minors, as that's something Buffalo will never be able to afford to do. I just don't see it happening.

Instead of waiving him, just buy him out. Sure it'll cost a few but that's a lot of money down in the minors. Would someone want to calculate how much it would take to buyout Huet after this season.

The Leafs doing something like this, eating so much money, would be a nice way of reaching out to fans and showing they will do whatever it takes to improve the team.

With most other teams this would never be considered, hopefully Toronto utilizes this tool.

$5,625,000 + $5,625,000 = $11,250,000

$11,250,000 * (2/3) = $7,500,000

$7,500,000 / 4 = $1,875,000 over 4 years

What's the point of wasting $1.875m in cap space for 4 years when you can easily eat the contract as MLSE can?
