X-Sharkie and others on draft day

Not that I dont want to get everyone thinking past the playoffs. Just I like draft day alot. I was just wondering X-Sharkie, who do you think or want the Sharks to draft with their 25+ overall pick this year. Anyone else feel free to do so if you want to put any input in because I have no idea who the Sharks might draft and need some help on who I may be expecting to come to the podium in June 04.

Also I was reading the prospects board and saw how all those other guys were bashing X-Sharkie for no reason, because he's 16 and knows more about hockey that practically almost all of those guys... great job X-Sharkie! thats why I come to you for prospect help.

Thanks for the information.

Hey thanks, I apreciate it First off, I have to be honest, I havent been thinking about the draft to much lately.....I'm sucked into the playoffs.
I asked HockeyCrazed about this once...because he knows some people, and last year he got the Michalek prediction right...... So I came to him about this.

He said the Sharks love F Andrew Ladd and D Kirill Lyamin. I agree with both picks. Although Ladd should be long gone but Lyamin should be there. He's 6-3 200 pounds so he the size and once he bulks up he would be a monster. He's a very smart defensman, he has great a feal for the game, he takes his man very well, is a good skater in every department. Overall he's a find..

Forward wise....I've been sold on this guy....Carl Soderberg .....he's 6-3 205. He's a big big center who can win faceoffs consistantly...He's not a powerforward but doesnt shy away from phsyical contact. He has good hands, he's not much of a playmaker....he has solid skating ability, great finishing skills, and plays a two way game. Rick Nash like player.

We might trade up also, or see if anyone like C Davild Bolland or W Lukas Kaspar fall.

Technically, I said SJ was sold on guys like Ladd and Lyamin...not those guys in particular. Personally, I expect SJ to stay in the WHL on Draft Day. At least for Round 1. Either that or trade the pick.

What was the price for moving up from 21 to 16???I forgot.

Yess.... We have are own 2nd round pick (late) and Teemu's compinsation (late 2nd) and Mark Messier compinsation should land a 3rd... So we have the power to move up in this draft.

Wilson and company moved up from the 21st overall spot to grab Bernier. San Jose traded their pick at the 21 spot, a 2nd round pick (66th overall) and a fourth round pick (107th overall) to Boston in exchange for the spot that allowed them to nab Bernier.

Hope for some more of that 4th round magic...

2002 - no 4th rounder
2001 - Christian Ehrhoff and Dimitri Patzold
2000 - Jon DiSalvatore
1999 - Willie Levesque (acquired Todd Harvey by trading a 4th round pick)
1998 - Rob Davison and Miroslav Zalesak
1997 - Adam Colagiacomo
1996 - Matt Bradley
1995 - Vesa Toskala

IMO, not too shabby (if you take out Levesque and Zalesak [on some nights])

Sure was.....I would consider Zalesak a good pick up for a fourth round pick.

I hope the Sharks get a bit lucky and somone falls to them, actually I would be stoked if we moved up expecially with the new NCAA rule that allows there players into the draft so everyone like O'Neil and Stafford can enter without loosing eligibility.

That would be excellent, there are some good college players. Would a guy like A.J. Thelen fit into the Sharks system?

What would you offer to Washington for 1st overall in 2004?

How about SJ 1st 2004,2005 and Bernier.

Do you guys think that Zalesak could make the SJ team next season? If no then he may not have a future with the Sharks organization and he may end up being traded for a draft pick or something during the draft deadline.

Also I wouldn't give up too much for Ovechkin, Cyclops was offering 3 potentially good players for one good player better than the three, hmmmm, maybe I'd just keep the three.

You're probably looking at something even bigger than the Lindros package, since Ovechkin won't be holding out on the Caps.

I would give up the package Cyclops suggested in a heartbeat for Ovechkin. Remember, adding Ovechkin to the current team basically means they will be picking low for years to come, which is why it'd be such a bargain to trade away the first rounders in the next few years for Ovechkin.

Why won't Ovechkin hold out?

I really don't think the Caps will trade the pick. They should take Ovechkin and wait to see what happens with labor negotiations. If they don't get a reduction in salaries Teddy can then sell off Ovechkin.

I have not been impressed with Bernier's performance against PEI and SJ's 1st
in 2004 will not likely yield a top player. I agree that the package isn't enough but that is probably as high as I would go.
The Sharks are a young team and have at least 10 prospects who are NHL calibre so they can afford to move a couple of picks.

Not to many come around like Ovechkin so why wouldn't you take a chance with him??

Why would he? That'd make no sense at all. Unless both Washington and Ovechkin have massive brain cramps, Ovechkin's going to be their top prospect and might even be on the team next year.

SJ won't deal its 1st in '05. Far too deep to even consider it. '05 is the depth of '03 (and then some) with the top end of '04 (and then some). With a D like Anikeenko possibly falling out of the top-5, it's an amazing, amazing draft.

While we're at it, I've got some oceanfront property in Kansas to sell.

You remember how I reacted to the Kipper deal? For those of you that don't know, I think Kipper is the best thing since sliced bread, and his GAA this year set a modern-day record, but you'll remember that I said the deal was a draw because of that probable 2nd rounder. When I see my favorite player in the NHL dealt to a team run by Bitter Beer Face and say that it's a good deal both ways, it should show how deep the draft is. This one's special.

Don't let these young kids stats get in your head to much....alot of the top players in the 2005 draft are very impressive....But! they still have a full year of hockey left to be played and this is when it comes down to it..... Alot of these players have holes in there games, and this is probally the most important devolopment season yet. 2005 is ooozing sick potential...Gilbert Brule is the most underated player out there in the CHL IMO....He is overlooked consistantly because of Crosby....I saw him fake the pants off of Phaneuf three times in the same game....He's somthing....Potential is great but don't forget these young kids gotta show there not just a flash in the pan and gotta continue devoloping it.
