Suppose Tomas Kaberle was fed up with the Leafs...

and decided to lift his NTC. Whom would offer the best package for his services?

I'd like to keep this civil, with serious offers only please. I'd like to think we're all mature and capable of having a constructive discussion.

Cheers

He would be a great pick for the Caps, he's exactly what we need but I don't know what we could give for him.

I honestly believe his value has slipped from its high of two years ago. Probably the best Burke could get is a mid to late first round pick, or a solid roster player (not a star) plus a prospect.

As an example, Philly might give up someone like Hartnell plus Matsumoto (or a 3rd round pick).

Columbus might give up their first or someone like Boll or Dorsett plus Sestito or Mayorov.

I picked guys with grit because I believe that's one of the missing ingredients in this Leafs team.

sadly kaberle's game has been in decline for a couple of years, so i don't see him bringing back high return in a trade, burke couldn't get high value for him in the summer, so he kept him, hoping he plays better, and then trade him this upcoming off season, but kaberle, like many leafs only devalue themselves when they take to the ice.

Philly wouldn't give Hartnell for Kaberle straight up.

Nylander, Pothier, Osala, 1st '10, 2nd '10, 2nd '11

for

Kaberle + Stempniak

Get n somewhat puck moving defenseman to replace Kaberle, a pf prospect and partially recoup your Kessel losses

Not sure if it works out capwise.

It would be great for the Caps, but I'm not sure that the Leafs would agree.

Possibly throw in some conditionals, like the '10 2nd becomes the '10 1st if Capitals make it to the conference finals or something. And if they win the cup another 10' 2nd is added to that.

At least that way we'll get the entire toronto fanbase on our side for the playoffs.

Philly has no need for Kaberle at all. They have that job well covered. I was using those teams as examples.

agree that the window to trade Kaberle was a couple of years ago and the rumoured deal that was on the table with Philly would have been perfect. Since that time i've seen Kaberle start to make mistakes you'd rarely see him make before and I do think his game has slipped.

He's been loyal to the franchise and he may be worth more now to keep around.

Burke wants a lot for him, more than other teams are willing to offer.

On the other hand, Burke will probably try to acquire a 1st round pick so he might get dealt.

Not that our teams would ever trade, but:

Nick Foligno, Brian Lee, 1st '10 and probably Chris Kelly for salary reasons

That idea didn't work too well for Burke at the draft.

Kaberle like all Leafs is overrated by Leafs fans and media and GM. He simply is not that good. Teams will not overpay for him. Remember for Kessel Boston wanted him and a top ten #1 pick. Burke should take whatever he can get and start rebuilding this team.

I figure a bit of overpayment due to in-division.

I figure overpayment in general would be required for Kaberle since all teams will be vying for him.

But works for Ottawa with new found forward depth (although I really like Foligno)... and Kaberle would replace Lee with Karlsson still coming up the pipeline.

Burke has it in his mind what is fair value for Kaberle. The problem is that other teams don't agree so unless Burke get off this wanting a 1st and a blue chip player and or prospect he will remain a Leaf until his contract expires.

Just wanted to say kudos for all that are participating. Things are running smoothly.

I wonder if San Jose would be interested and if Clowe and Couture would be too much to ask? I could see Kabs waiving his NTC to go to a contender and I think SJ could really use his puck moving skills.

Yes they have Blake, Boyle and Vlasic, but Blake will probably retire soon and Vlasic doesn't have the offense. Just a thought.

Rangers will want him, guaranteed. Sather has been after Kaberle for the last two years. He just very recently offered the Leafs Rozsival and our 1st for him, but Burke wanted Grachev as well.

Do you blame him? Rosy + 1st isn't worth Kaberle. I am not saying adding Grachev makes it fair, but I am not surprised Burke wanted Grachev too.

I tend to include to much in those kind of deals...

To Toronto: Redden, Grachev, Anisimov and 1st -10

To New York: Kaberle, Kadri, Stefanovich and Stajan
