Matt Walker to Detroit

Just curious what his value would be. The Lightning have a ton of defenseman right now, but the ones they want to trade aren't worth much.

Would the Lightning be more likely to waive a Dman instead of trading one, or trade a better Dman and get something of value in return?

They would hopefully waive Krajicek or Foster before trading Walker.

Smaby who is a similiar style player may be available also but not on waivers like the other two.

Coming back would be picks or prospects (preferably either a dman a while away from the NHL or a forward with potential for the top 6) a pick could be added to even it out.

Hawks will chip in a third to help make this happen.

Well, they are, considering we have 3 of their defenseman on our 7 Dman roster right now.

In reality, the Wings need a "bare as bones" bottom-pairing defenseman. Nothing special, just a guy who can actually locate the defensive zone. One of the Wings biggest needs is a decent #6.

Isnt he sort of anything the Wings preach against on defense? Hes not very mobile and lacks any offensive skill.

Mobility, hell yes is a problem, but his outlet passes and shot is passable. Not good by any stretch but reasonable for a shutdown dman. (or better than I was expecting anyway)

It would be safe to say that Willie Mitchell would look like a racoon right about now if MW had stayed in CHI town.

TB has no reason to trade him. Hes been solid in his own end while bringing exactly what he was signed for. Toughness, grit, and accountability to the other team.

The only Dmen I see TB trading are Kraijcek, Hale, and POSSIBLY Ranger but the return would have to be great.

The Wings don't preach against lack of mobility; they preach against lack of passing ability.

Yeah, thats what I figured. He's looked great for a bottom-pairing Dman so far, and unfortuantely, thats exactly what the Wings need right now: a bottom-pairing stay-at-homer.
